Don't diss the Transit until you actually see them and what they can do. I'm confident they will be a very worthy replacement for the Econoline. It's very easy to resist change, but it's necessary. Getting rid of the old 300 I6 was necessary, it was replaced by a very competent V6 (after they fixed the problems in early production).
Yes they have, but now it has been redesigned. We just got our first one on the lot. Looks like a bread box. LOL

Well I guess my next truck will be a 250. Who puts a baby engine in a truck. My father was mad when they dropped the 460 (7.5). But for some reason loved those straight 6s. had one in his old 66 m150

The 300 straight six is one of the best engines Ford has ever produced. Have to say I miss them.

I had a 4.6 in my 2006 XLT. It was a good engine, until I tried to tow a 25' TT, it fell very flat. Made me miss the 5.4 I had previously.

My new one has a 3.5 eco. Can't say that I really miss the 4.6

Well when our government says that a car company has to average 50 some odd miles per gal over the entire fleet of vehicles (CAFE). Then they have to get creative if they want to continue to sell trucks or cars bigger than a shoe box. We all want power for our trucks but we are going to have to be satisfied with smaller displacement and turbo charged or supercharged engines. The V8 will be a thing of the past some day...fact of life...

This ^^^^^. I've also read where the three quarter tons and up will have to abide by the new standard. You may start seeing Ecoboost F-250s in your future. Don't blame Ford. Blame the government.

I hate to say it but I don't care anymore. I have all the truck I'd ever need with my '04. Next addition to my stable is a sporty car as a daily. They're ruining trucks if they do that. I'd just keep buying older trucks if I wanted a tow vehicle. Stupid government sucks here.

Two fellas that I know own the eco boost. They spend more time in the shop. Truck engines are designed to be low maint. Unless you have gotten stuck, in the great white north at -40c and 300+ks from a dealer. Even though the 5.4 is a newer engine. Can still fix it with a hammer and vise grips. O well just as long as I can buy parts for my trucks, ill keep them. If I wanted a turner engine Id buy a Toyota.

That's my thing can, I agree. I don't care much about mpg. Yeah, I like that my 5.4 is over 20+ mpg highway even with heavy wheels and tires - but get a commuter car if it's that big of a deal. I'd rather a simple engine with out that crap and get slightly less mpg. Where are the savings if you have to be a master tech to fix it and have to keep going to the dealer?

Well fortunatly for me I'm old so the truck I have now will probably last me until the end. The 4.6 is a great reliable engine. Police and cab drivers all over the country already miss the crown victoria!
