Got Mustang Engine broke down had turned main bearing. Crank at machine shop being turned. Got head at reputable salvge yard for $250 Also found one at pick a part for $55 but I'm thinkin salvage yard is better deal than removing it.

Am I missing something here? You are going to pay the salvage yard $195 to remove the head for you?

Are you going to do the valves on the replacement head? I know I would not transplant an un-known head on a motor I was doing. After all you are still walking out the door with the same thing (a used head) at either place.

But like I said, maybe I'm missing something, IDK.

Got head rebuilt it ready started putting engine back together should I put connecting rods to crank as I put pistons in? Old time mechanic told me to put all pistons then connect to crank just don't want to get something hung up and cant move crank or have to loosen after torqueing down? Always has to be a first so any help will be appreciated.

Connect the rods as you install the pistons/rods. If you don't you could jam up the motor as you turned it and maybe scratch the crankshaft.

Thanks Roadie got the pistons all installed last night. Feels great smooth rotation. Gonna do the ends of the motor next, rear main seal and oil pump. Gotta pull old engine from truck to use pickup tube and oil pan from truck engine.

Got engine back together and installed in truck. Time to put heads on and I am stumped as to TDC on engine and heads and not sure where to have engine and valves when I install heads. Know that engine must turn 4 revolutions to be sure same does not happen again but do not know how to install so I wont have to pull back off. Have new head bolts and they are 1 use I guess. Want it right if anyone knows links or videos or just general instructions. Thanks in advance!

Have installed the timing chains 15 times. Cannot get it to rotate. The keyway is at 12:00 the timing mark is at 8. The cams can be in 2 different places each I think I have tried every possible way twice. HELP if you have any info.

Do you have a manual? If not find the recent link to the digital manual and download it. I downloaded it within the last week or so.

Yes have Haynes manual but no help with this issue. When I do it by the manual cannot turn the engine. Has to be two links forward in order to turn the engine. If anyone one could help with this please let me know. Just want to get it finished soon. Am at wits end.
