Could Someone Please Explain To Me How To Remove The Air Silencer In A 93 F150 ?
I have a 93 F-150 5.0 (302) the trucks engine is totally stock except for a K&N Drop In. I heard that by removing the stock air silencer you can gain about 4hp. Is this true ? If so could someone please explain to me how to do this on a 1993 ?
Thanks !
Thanks !
It is true, just different than on the 97 and up trucks. I did this on my F150 and with a K&N, felt slightly more power. Its very easy, simply unsnap the duct that goes from the air filter canister and remove the screw that holds the duct to the radiator support. Should take about five minutes. Best of all, most smog inspectors will never miss the duct (even tho your not supposed to remove it) and it won't effect your emissions at all!

Better put this in, you are talking about the funnel right? Because I too, have the bafel from the top of the radiator to the lower of the box, but mine doesn't have a funnel inside of it. I was told that just big blocks up to 1994, had those....
Ok I know what you are talking about, the tube between the air box and the thing thats mounted to the radiator support. But what does the silencer itself look like ?

I am confused.
Tenderpaw: are you saying that you removed the entire funnel assembly thats bolted to the radiator support ? If so wouldn't the airbox suck in straight hot air ? Maybe you are talking about somthing else though.

I removed the entire assembly the goes from the radiator support to the air filter box. There are no "funnels" on 5.0 V8s. The air intake has a sharp bend in the end that attaches to the radiator support. The modification will pull some hot air, but no more than a "filter charger" IMO. I did this mod when the truck was almost new and MPG was unchanged. Power was slightly better and the sound much better.
BTW, only 7.5 V8s have funnels. They are located between the air filter and the throttle body. It is possible to remove the rubber air tubes, saw off the funnels, and reattach the air tubes. I did it on my Dad's '89 F250 7.5. Also did the above airbox mod to it too. Now, if I could only get him to install a cat back exhaust system.
