2003 F150 Screew no crank

First time it ever happened.
But my truck wouldn't start this morning.
I didn’t use it all day Sunday and it did rain a lot last night but it's never, not started before.
I turn the key dash lights up but no start.
I did find the relay on the dash.
I turned the key on and jumped the relay and it starts right up.
I tested the ignition wire to the relay with an inline light.... turned the key to start and nothing.
Put it in neutral ...same thing ...no crank.

So I guess there's a fault between the key and the relay.

One more question.

The chip that’s in the key...
How does it keep the truck from starting?
Would it still light up the dash? If it were bad?

I did try another key and it was the same... no crank.

The reason I’m asking is Saturday night when my wife came home at 9pm my alarm went off. It never did it before. And I thought I might have triggered it with some change in my pocket.
But i went out to great her and shut the alarm off and it all seemed fine. And i started the truck then to make sure nothing was wrong.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the current prob. but...... it was just odd this followed that.

Anyway i tried to get a wiring dia. of the ignition from the library online but they didn't have it.
Anybody have it they would like to share it with me so I can run down the problem?

Thanks
Tinner

Just so we are on the same page - "does not crank" means the starter does not turn the engine over. Is that what you are saying?

If so, does it even "click"? If not, have you tried wiggling the gear lever and/or putting it in Neutral and wiggling it?

Yes it dosen't turn the engine over.
no click nothing.
I did the wiggle in park and nuetral and got nada.
I did put a test probe between the wire going to the relay and ground and it didn't light up.
But i'm going to use a volt meter to see if its getting anything.

"I'd replace that relay 15 dollar part"

No sense in replacing a part if its good. If theres no power getting to it then no worky.
I think i'll hit it with 12 volts to make sure.

At least im not stuck....... just turn on the key and jump the relay....

Thanks

Possible the actual ignition switch in the steering column went bad?

the wire coming to the relay is very low voltage it may not light up a test light..

I found this yesterday

URL=http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/594/img0916ay.jpg/][/URL]

Soooo
Theres power to the ignition switch because it will run if the starter will start it.
So I'll check to see if there is power thru the 15amp fuse #21

Question... central junction box.... thats the one in the cab drivers side behind the removable cover right?

If it has power going thru the fuse then the next path is...

My truck is an auto tranny....
what the difference in the A/T MSOF and the A/T ESOF ?????

But let me check the power thru fuse #21 first.

Thanks

Its the ignition switch. so far..........
i probed both sides of the fuse while in the start position and nothing.
So no power from the ignition switch, and obviously theres power to it since it will run.

I changed the ignition switch and it fired right up.
Thanks for all the input.
It really wasn't a bad job either.

Thanks
