Question Patdon -Factory engine break in???

Patdon,

Does the factory break in a new motor? For example when you install a new cam you are supposed to run @ 2000rpm's for 20 minutes then drain the oil and refill. If not you know when someone test drives a vehicle they always stomp on it. The motor needs to be broke in before you run it hard.

Thanks

To my knowledge, they don't. I don't think they have time with the demand for this awesome truck. I have been told by my uncle and grandpa (drag racers and backyard mechanics from back in the day)and a few others that you can run it from day one like you would run it 2-3 years from now. I did that with my old Ranger (2.3 I-4) when I bought it, and it never saw the shop floor. Considering the 131,000 miles on it when I traded it, that's not too shabby. I've done the same with my new truck (1998 4.6L V-8) and it's running like a champ.

For what it's worth...

The Triton engines are not run at the factory. They are checked for clearance and construction but no break in period.

As Tellenberger said the Triton engines built in Windsor are not Hot Tested. But at the Essex Engine Plant also in Windsor, where the 4.2 is built, every engine is Hot Tested for about 4 minutes. This is not really a break in process, it is really to ensure that the engine runs properly.
