I will be changing my ignition coils soon on my 2001 S crew 5.4 and I wanted to know if I needed to remove anything to get them out.

 

Nope. Sometimes moving the fuel rail on the left side helps a little bit, but it doesn't have to be removed. Just remove the hold down bolts on the rail and it'll give you some wiggle room.

 

Thanks Galaxy. I was talking to mechanic friend yesterday and he was saying that a leak in one of the vacuum hoses could cause misfiring. Would that cause
a couple of the pistons to misfire. I got a code 304 and 307 (4 and 7 cylinder misfire. The plugs are less than 2 years old.

 

You would get a lean code if you had a vacuum leak serious enough to cause a miss fire, What plugs did you use? mod motors are ssuper picky about plugs.. Motorcraft are the safe bet..

 

I'm not sure what plugs but they were installed by a certified mechanic in my city. The vacuum lines looked to be ok. I will start with the coils and go from there. Thanks
