Rattleing sound when starting engine

When I start my truck I sometimes hear a sound that almost sounds like a little rattle upon starting, sometimes the sound is not there. Is this normal?
Sorry for all the questions but I just got this truck and need to know what is normal or not. My last car has me paranoid about sounds from the vehicle lol

5.4 3v? Timing chain tensioner can bleed off oil pressure occasionally and a lot more if the wrong oil filter is used, causing what you're hearing, start up rattle. Only use the recommended oil and oil filter with an anti drainback valve. I use Motorcraft exclusively.

Yes 5.4. The oil was changed at the ford dealership so I would assume they are using the motor craft filter. When asked they said that is what they use.

Mine does it occasionally. Once the oil pressure builds the noise stops. Honestly I don't worry about it.

Yea, the noise does stop right away. Once in a while the engine sounds rough when idling upon first starting then goes away within a minute once it warms up. Do you get this also?

I've never experienced that. The rattle hasn't happened in a long time either.

x2 on the timing chain tensioner, mine would rattle upon start up almost every morning until the chain broke a guide.every time it rattles the tensioner is putting little pressure on the chain(until oil pressure builds up)so the chain jumps all over and ends up breaking a guide.if it does it often i would keep an eye on it before it gets expensive.

So as I'm typing this I was just informed that I need a new engine. I am heated right now, I bought this f*cking truck a little over a month ago from a Ford Dealership.

They said the noise was coming from a cam shaft or something like that. WTF...

I'd get a 2nd opinion. If it the tensioners that can be repaired. How many miles are on it?

50k miles on it. The good news is that Ford is covering the cost of the engine, it's still under their factory warranty.
