2010 4.6 3 Valve engine kill

I can't find anything on the web, and the dealer can't duplicate the problem. I was making a turn a little faster than I should because of traffic, and the road was rough. The engine killed when I hit a rough spot, and I lost all power. The only indication was the oil can symbol, but it was in the info window, not an idiot light indication. The engine restarted normally. This was a dangerous situation, and the next time it happens I might not be here to tell about it. The dealer tech said that the computer did not record anything for the incident. Anybody have an idea?

It was probably your traction control that kicked in....

I do have limited slip differential, but I don't see how that could have killed the engine. I was braking slightly to slow down a bit, so there was a little wheel hop, and that might have locked in the limited slip.

I'm not refering to your limited slip......

I'm refering to your traction control/RSC.....go get your owners manual and read up on it....

You know, I forgot these things have electronic traction control. I do have the L/S option, but regardless, I don't see why TC would kill the engine, unless it is faulty. I will ask the service guy about that possibility. I would just as soon that thing be disabled.

I had this happen a couple times a while back in my 04 FX4 5.4. I nearly $%&* a brick when it happened, but breathed a sigh of relief when the truck started up normally. Did'nt think it would be a DBW issue.

The traction control senses the wheel speed difference then tries to correct the truck by using different components to correct the issue.....the main one is the throttle .....shut it down so the motor doesn't deliver any more power....

Turn off the TC and the problem should go away but the TC turns back on after a certain speed or by how its shut off....there's different levels of shutting it off ....

BTW.....the 04's didn't have the TC....that was added in 09+ models.....

The dealer suspects an electrical connection failure but couldn't find anything. They documented it. They also corrected that two piece drive shaft bumping that feels like a loose motor mount. I was convinced the motor mounts were loose, and I thought that might have something to do with the engine kill, but no such luck. The rep said that the oil can symbol I saw meant "loss of oil pressure". Wonder if that might have killed the engine.

I think the other way, the killed engine caused the low oil light On.

when you engine turns off the oil pressure drops and the oil pressure light comes on. your engine is fine.

Yeah, I never had a doubt about the engine itself.
