2v's need the thinner oil for the cam bearings. I have seen more than a few with the cam bearings wiped out. The 3v guys should really start weighting them up to a minimum of 5/30. You need the pressure for those cam phasers. 3 years ago with my buddies 05 5.4 the cam phasers were making a lot of noise at 70,000 miles. Truck is still running on the original cam phasers at 170,000 miles. They are still quiet.

My 05 has 134,500 on it and has never seen anything but 5-20. Barely moves on the stick in 4500 miles and no noise other than a little injector noise.

I used Penzoil exclusively in my 1990 Mazda B2200. Bought the truck new, kept driving it even after it was flooded by hurricane Ivan back in 2004, and finally sold it a few months ago with 250,000 miles on it because the transmission synchros finally died due to salt water intrusion.
I think oil change interval is more important than oil brand.
Just my $.02 . . .
Cheers,
Matt

I would never run my truck even close to 7500 miles on the same oil, no matter what the life expectancy is on the oil or how clean it is. I will not usually go much over 3000 miles, but that's just me.
Then don't waste your money on high priced synthetic oil. Use the Motorcraft 5w20 semi-synthetic and Motorcraft filter. Walmart carries both.

I use Mobil 1 EP and a M1 filter, and change it once a year or 10k, whichever occurs first.

Sometimes I don't put 3000 on in a year.

I just want see what everyone is using before I decide to change mine.
Mobil 1 Full Synthetic with Motorcraft oil filter since the first oil change. I only put about 1,000 miles a year on it so I only change the oil once a year. When it comes out it is almost as clean as when it went in. Engine is quite as can be knock on wood.

The last time I changed it I bought the extended performance because it was on sale for cheaper than the standard 5W-20 Mobil 1....

Couldn't pay me to use Mobil 1, since SOME of their oil failed spec testing a few years ago. I won't chance it.
