Oh yea, that must be that Lilly White crap ? Good stuff , highly refined, low viscosity and virtually colorless. Use that in the crankcase and you'll get more miles alright, ala- "shoe leather express".

For that 50/50 mix, add in 2 parts synthetic trans fluid to the mix and you'll have the perfect engine enema brew.

I think it's intact ?

well guys my dad agreed to let me put in the oil i want. he said i can do it in november, but thatd be too soon. those cold temps will really thicken the oil. my friend said to do it at the end of august. thats wat ima do. but if i dont put in motorcraft, ill put in somethin else. as much as id want to put in motorcraft, i feel it aint gonna be the end of the world if i dont put it in.

Change that oil

Don't mean any disrespect to anyone, don't shoot the messenger.
I have had my 2000 5.4 since new. 100K plus.
I change my oil and filter two times a year, spring and fall.
I use 10w30 here in Virginia.

Recommendation,
Read your owners manual. and / or--
Stop by your local ford dealer, ask to speak to their lead repair guy,
NOT the service tech, most those guys mean well but, don't know a
Allen wrench from a Volt Ohm Meter....
or just post it here like you did.

Now another thought is (like transmission ) I always pull the dip stick and smell it too. If it smells burnt or very dark it's time to consider changing the oil and filter.
I use to teach Naval marine engineering, don't fool around with the life blood of your engine, baby that girl.

Listen to your friend- now that's a true friend, give you GOOD advice instead of bad advice. The reason we said to use Motorcraft oil and filter is they are both excellent products (Motorcraft is Semi-Synthetic) and, at least in most of the U.S. they're available at Wal Mart for a really good price. One of the best oils and at the best price. Don't go near the "Orange Can of Death" (Fram filter) if you are in Wal Mart to get the Motorcraft oil!

Simple solution here. Drain the oil out of the truck and run it til it blows. Fill it up with 15-40 again to make it look like you didn't touch it. When your dad goes to drive it again and it's locked up just say "See, told ya." and walk away.

Thats not a good excuse. Again motorcraft oil is an excellent value last time I bought it it was $14 for the 5 quart container that works out to $2.80 a quart. You can afford to pony up 2 cents?

did you look at the 5 quart containers? Now I havent bought oil in several months because I knew prices were going up so I stocked up so it probably did go up. The 5 uquart container is always an excellent value though.

Yea the 5 qt containers is almost 16 bucks here. I can get a high milage oil or somthing alittle better with a few extra bucks. But i always use 5w30 and motorcraft filter regardless to what oil brand i put in. Im gettin to the point that as long as it meets the API standards its good oil, i change it ever 3k anyway. I used to be a firm beliver in pennzoil cause my dad and grandpa have always liked pennzoil. Then i liked valvoline, then mobil 1 and now castrol. i may stick with castrol gtx high milage or i might just start getting whats on sale.

I may switch back to motorcraft since its the original equipment. But i dont like that they only sell 15w40 and 5w20 5qt containers at walmart. I think 5w20 is alittle to thin i know they only switched to 5w20 for fuel milage reasons. My friends truck (ol Bluef150) his truck says to use 5w30. And i like 5w30 cause my truck wont burn any oil with it with 5w20 it burns about half a qt maybe alittle less in a 3k oil change. 5w30 is the highest viscosity that will be put in my triton v8.
