Avoid modded trucks imo... I'd just find a nice clean stocker. They are out there...

I would say thats a no go. modded trucks were modded for a reason, to go fast or to go through more crap than the other guys truck. 177,000 miles is way too much In my opinion. just keep searching and you will find a better one that you will be happy with. dont settle for something you arent 100% on.

so im still debating on this truck, has 188,000 miles. 2 different owners and is in great shape, just alot of miles on the truck. with a trade it would be less than 5,000 and can afford this at this time.

would it just be dumb to sill purchase? I need the room, supercrew, and if it can last 2-3 years id be happy.

That's complete BS. I would argue most modded vehicles are done by an enthusiast/gearhead like all of us that really likes working on his vehicle. The fact a truck's been fixed up means nothing. Mine's got a lift and all kinds of little mods...you think she's had a rough life? Does what you say happen? Yes. But I'd argue it's not the majority, especially if it's done with quality, name brand parts and done right. That would say to me the other guy cared.

Someone mentioned knowing the history and care background of the vehicle being an important factor. Assuming since you said trade-in, you're shopping at a dealer. You cannot get that if buying from a dealer. That guy's a salesman...he's going to tell you whatever you need to hear. Plus, people pawn stuff off on dealerships all the time to get rid of their junk before it fails. Would I buy a truck with that many miles from an owner?? Very possible if it was super clean. Most likely wouldn't even give the sales guy a second glance at that truck sitting on a lot.

I got my 06 supercab for 11000 with 72000 miles on it and NO problems. he even put brand new leather seats in it. you just have to wait for the right deal. and if possible I always prefer private parties

i personally would stay away from a modded truck with those kind of miles i mean look at what some people on here do with their trucks with armored bumpers and big wheels and tires.....not saying that every modded truck is a POS or abused just seems people mod trucks to acomplish that mud pit they couldnt get though stock. just look for signs of abuse....overly chipped up wheel wells and rockers banged up under carriage and so forth.

There are guys who do lots of mods fix up there trucks to no end and never abuse them. Drive back and forth to work and thats about it. Do a carfax. If there are no maajor deals on it and it looks like the truck spends allot of its life sheltered in a garage consider it. If the truck spend its life out in the weather and all thats a major minus..

Why not expand your search to suv's or differentbrand trucks or just wait for lower miles, We got our expedition for 3500 with 150,000 and it wasnt a good decision, we should have held out because every small thing goes out. its annoying. also cars get cheaper at different times of the year. when we bought ours it was one of 2 expeditions available and the only one with 4x4 and a 5.4, 4 months later a 99+expy was for sale for 3000 and it was in much better condition too!

That's not alot of miles by today's standards. Anyone that thinks so is living under a rock somewhere. Cars and trucks last alot longer than that (with good maintenance) and I wouldnt hesitate to trade one second. Thats a great deal. Some of the best trucks I've ever drove had way over 200,000 on them.

Maybe he doesn't want a SUV or a different brand truck.
This is a Ford site.
