Project Rebuild: '02 5.4 2V

Well, started on the rebuild on my dad's truck today. A 2002 5.4 2V. Should be a fun project. Will post updates regularly. The Truck is a 2002 F-150 XLT 4x4 7700 series.

Pretty much just a basic rebuild and whatever needs replacing will be replaced with performance parts for maximum torque seeing as the truck is pretty much a tow pig.

While you have the motor out, why not add a set of long tube headers to your list? With long tube headers, you will increase torque throughout the power band, increase fuel mileage (if you keep your foot out of it, haha), and top end power is so much better. Are you planning on keeping the stock cams?

Would do long tubes but we just put shorties on about 4 months ago. Cams will probably be replaced. Not sure yet.

Here Is where we are at as of today. We got a bit hung up yesterday removing the fan because you need a fan removal tool but luckily we were able to borrow one from a local garage as all the auto parts stores in town were all out of them.

get a fuel disconnect tool and take that fuel rail off before you mess up those injectors, or did you take the injectors off the fuel rail?

still tho, takes 3 seconds to take the fuel line off the fuel rail

oh and how many miles on it?

It has about 232k on it. I took the injectors off of the rail. I was wondering how to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel rail as it doesn't say anything in my haynes manual.

below where it Y's together, there should be a quick connection, you'll need a larger version of the fuel filter tool, to wedge in there to release the spring, then it just pulls right off with the tool attached.

can't remember but there may also be a "lock" clip over the quick connect as a safety measure

picture from an explorer, should be similar
