No, like I tell everyone who asks, just lay a few rags down. I remove the injectors completely. No nuts or bolts there and there's no need to replace O-rings. It goes so quick after I pop the rail, I don't have any pics of it. It is allot quicker. I pull the manifold on the 98 with a plug change, that takes a little longer, but that 98 eats manifold gaskets.

Oh it will here and there. That's why you keep a rag wrapped around the rail. Just common sense really.

I just replaced #7 with the rails on. I had to use 2 extensions to torque it which I guess was bad but I went to 30 ft lbs to be on the safe side. To clean it out I fist taped a hose to a shop vac hose then to an air nozzle to get the hole cleaned out and the little slots around the manifold that hold dirt, water, etc. I tried to pull on the injector rail but it was kind of hard and I didn't want to mess anything up so I aborted.

Takes 5 mins to pull the rail. Probably took you 5 times that long for one plug? I dunno. It's not a matter of whether its possible for me. It's about effort in assuring everything to go right. Keeping things accessible and clean while doing so. Pulling the rail is worth it and takes minimal time if your doing all 8. If your just after one plug, it may not be worth it depending on the plug. But then again, why change one. At the price of them and the effort it takes, do them all and don't worry about them for the next few years.

You could probably change your brake pads without removing the tire, but it wont be fun.

Cool 28 ft lbs for 5.4L spark plugs?

I have seen this spec ( 28 ft lbs for spark plugs ) quoted a number of times on Ford forums but I am curious as to where did this torque spec come from. Is this just experience ?
