Spark plug help

Spark plug help

I know there are plenty of threads but I have an 04 5.4 4x4 fx4. Changing the plugs ... Got 6 of 8 out ... I ahve the special tool needed for the extraction minus the direction on how to use it . Got it from a dealership . If you are looking at the truck from the front it's the back 2 on the drivers side . Both snapped off right where the long skinny part meets the main part with threads . Leaving also about a quater inch of porcelain and the pin in the middle also . The pin is throwing me for a loop for I can't tap it ou with it in there any suggestion please!!!!

Try the Lisle tool, I beleive it's a different style than the tool the dealer uses and is better at removing plugs broken like yours.

My suggestion would be to buy the Lisle tool. I'm assuming teh one you have is the Ford Rotnda. With the Lisle, you push the porcelain down until it bottoms out on the strap, then you have enough of the metal sleeve to get the threaded tool in and pull everything out.

Only problem is I am in Canada , no stores have this tool , I know you can order it online , not really wanting to wait for it . What tool would you recomend for grinding the access porcelain away?

I have no idea what other tool could be used. I got lucky on my plug change and didn't have any break, I did buy the Lisle tool just in case but never used it.

Go here and buy the Lisle 65600. You can get it in about two to three days. It is worth every penny. It actually pushes the broken ceramic down past the electrode shield ( breaks the shield) giving you enough room to use the threaded extractor. The ceramic and shield do not fall down into the cyl. I have used mine on several vehicles with excellent results. Good luck.

Denlors does not ship directly to Canada. You have to pay with a wire transfer ($15 service fee) and deal with a company that will forward to you from a US address (more fees) and it will take a while.

Didn't realize he was from Canada. Still beats pulling the heads regardless of another $15.00 and a few days....

Well might I say after 25 hours and 3 days I have had sucess . This site is a gem . Thanks for all input . To others I would say just keep working and smashing bits of porcelain away ... The truck is running like a champ now ... Minus the p0171 and 0174 ... Vacum leak?
