Man IDK! Im dumber than rocks when it comes to this stuff. Everything that I have done to my truck was something I have never done before, and I just learned as I went along. Im finally beginning to get the whole supercharger thing, and how to upgrade all of that stuff. Im working on the rest of it . I have always heard the 5.4s blow the 4.6s out of the water with power and torque but the only 5.4 I have ever driven in more than once was in a 08 f250 4x4 and my truck with a dinky ol procharged 4.6 could run circles around it. I imagine it would be sweet in a f150.

Im thinking about just buying this 5.4 from that engine place and running it for awhile. Then I'll worry about seeing how much power I can squeeze out of it lata . I mean if my 4.6 lasts me 200k then theres no reason that the 5.4 shouldnt last me a long time too. I only put 8300 +/- miles on my truck this year. 68k plus 9k every year is a lot of years before its wore out I think

The 08 F-250 is a heavy azz truck compared to your truck don't forget.

just buy a used lighting engine! its built better than a NA 5.4 so you can run more boost and not have to worry. guys on Lrodder are always selling their stock motors!

Okay, so I know I have heard on here somewhere what the hp/tq ratings on the 5.4s are but I dont remember what they are. I was wanting the one with the best stock power, but im still not too sure what all is involved. Im thinking about asking about a 99 because IDK how difficult it will be to switch over to COP's. I was hoping the 99 was still just coil packs. Is that just a harness I would have to have? If so, I really hope that this junkyard motor has all the harnesses I need. I would hate to put the engine in and realize that I am missing things.

I was under the impression that they were upgraded due to the extra power. If I ever put on a supercharger I don't want to blow up the motor due to inferior parts. I've heard that Ford Racing has upgraded powdered metal rods but can't find them. I guess I'll use I beams and forged pistons.

many people feel the same way and they learn the hard way that the rods are the same

I've been pushing 15# on my green truck for years and it's fine with a good tune and supporting mods

You can run it ether way. 2 coils or 8 COPs.
There's a guy on here that was running a Lightning setup with 2 coils and plug wires.

Oh okay sweet! So it appears to me the engine harness is all in one big harness based upon the pictures I am seeing on here. I will have to call this place back tomorrow or monday to see how complete the engine is. Would you recommend me buying the computer for it also? I have heard that you can get a 4.6 computer reflashed for a 5.4.

You don't want the 5.4 computer. Get your computer programed to run it.

I first saw those rods when Ford delivered a prototype engine for gasket R&D. I wasn't impressed.

The more I look into this the easier it looks. For the most part it looks like everything is interchangable between the 4.6 and 5.4. Interesting

The 5.4 never did have coil packs and wires - it was COP from day 1 (1997). If you want a 5.4, get a 99 or later 2V so it will have PI heads.

Alright guys, I have done quite a bit of reading/learning and I got a couple questions. I found a 00 5.4 engine complete with 55k at a machine shop/engine rebuild place and it will have a 1 year warranty which I am considering buying. I will just say that my $$ limit has increased quite a bit, and I am looking into purchasing heads, cams, and hopefully a whole intake set-up from trickflow. Question 1. I have heard that the bigger the cam, the more the torque and horsepower in the mid range(this is what I want). What I do not understand is the lift and all of that. I dont want to just pick any one and buy it you know? What kind of cams are you guys running that have them? Question 2. If I do not put forged internals in this 5.4 block(with 55k) do you guys think it will hold up to the added compression and the supercharger? I WONT be racing it or anything, but I want it to be pretty damn quick. Question 3. How many horses/torque do you guys think is necessary before one should consider a driveshaft loop or cover(whichever its called)? I dont know that the truck will make that much power, but I am curious. I wanna go all out on this for the most part.

I have been looking for built engines, and have found a few but the ones I have seen already have a decent chunk of mileage on them. I dont necessarily want to spend 3k on a built block and then still have to buy heads, intake, and ALL that other stuff.

it all depends, there's way to many variables to say one way or teh other, cams, heads, intake manifold setup, torque converter etc all contribute to the driveability and powerband
