Yeah, shop around on the L sites.

Here's a good deal on some ported heads!

A good set of ported heads and cams will be somewhere in the 2500 range. Then about 500 for rods , 500 for pistons ,rings?. I think the cranks go for about 350. You might not need a crank. Bearings ,caskets , head studs. All that will be around 1000 bucks.
Ya need to have the block cleaned up=? ,
Ive seen built blocks for 25 to 3500. That would save you a lot of time and headache.
Haha holy $$$$! Yeah thats not gunna happen. Thats a butt ton of money for just the engine. I was hoping to have a 5.4 put in and a rebuilt tranny for 4k or so. Do I even need all of that for a DD? I dont plan on racing it or anything.

Naturally it all depends on how much power you want to make.
Like ,how much boost do you plan on running?
With your procharger, you could run 12 or 14 psi and a stock block will last a wile.

Pay the $1500, put the scrap yard engine in the truck, bolt on the Procharger and drive. The nice thing about running a Procharger is that it doesn't make a lot of low end boost. So for a DD you can scoot around at normal rpm and not stress the engine. When you do decide to put your foot into it the boost will show up a round 3k rpm. As $$ becomes more available you can spend it on a stronger engine.

Now thats not entirely true. I have a pulley for it as well as a lightning maf and a wastegate. I havent put any thing on it because i didnt wanna put even more stress on my old engine, bad enough i supercharged it. I think i probably will buy a used motor and run it for awhile. I runna run prolly 12lbs of boost which ill have it tuned for. I want it quick but reliable at least

Not to hijack the thread, quick question though. Whats a good assembly lube to use? Working on a ground up build with a brother in law this weekend for a toyota. Hoping to get the rotating assembly in, this is the first ground up build for either of us (with some experienced help) But assembly lube is like oil, everybody has their opinions. I would be just fine with using some 30w oil but the thing is, it may sit for a few more months after assembly. Any thoughts, thanks.

Okay guys I have a question. I have been doing alot of reading up on lightningrodder and I am beginning to think it would be cheaper and possibly easier in the long run to build my current engine up. I have been looking at all the PI/non PI set ups they are doing with the non PI 4.6s and these engines are putting out rediculous numbers. My question is, could I get forged internals for my 4.6 and have the block rebuilt and then get better heads, cams, and intake but still run my procharger? Seeing the videos of the PI swaps that had the stock 4.6 blocks pushing 400 horses got me all excited.

Try Livernois motor sports. They have it all.

If you go with the salvage yard motor [and I would] check the fine print on the warranty, may require a ASE certified mechanic install to uphold the warranty.

Well that is what I have been considering is calling the place up and telling them I want it. And I work at a nissan dealership where I can have the engine "installed" . Either way the warrantly only covers 90 days. I might not have the engine in my truck in 90 days after purchase even.

I had a 4.6- and recently swapped to a 5.4. This was the BEST choice I could have ever made. I tossed the idea and ease of another 4.6. Even without the correct tune the 5.4 is amazing. You will never ever ever ever regret doing the 5.4 swap. I promise. I did my hole setup (with torque converter, but minus tune) for under $600. a 5.4 + procharger would be the ideal setup for you.

you can run forged internals in your current block, have the heads worked over, install better cams and it'll make you happy for a while

If your gonna do all that, why not just get a junkyard 5.4 and end up with more power?

Phil
