Maybe it was the number four plug, corroded from coolant? That thing had to be misfiring.

That plug was one of the original ones, he was comparing it to the new ones.

Haven't been on here in a while...

Probably put about 5,000 miles on these plugs. No issues!

I had a smile from ear to ear driving home tho! Would recommend these plugs by far!
Did the base hobby shop have all the tools you needed? Did you replace the COP boots also? How about the fuel rail? Did you have to pull it to get access to the plugs?

Yes they did, you pretty much need a good socket set with lots of extensions and swivel sockets. I would highly recommend replacing the COP boots and use the grease on the boots and plugs too. I don't remember messing with the fuel rail at all... the fuel rail is over the COP boots but you are able to squeeze the COPS by the fuel rail without moving it.

I could have gone longer as well but I had a coil go bad so I figured if I was going to spend the time to replace the coils it only made sense to do the plugs as well.

I'm mostly doing this because they drop down in price over time, claim more power and mpg, and love to modify.

I'm trying to find more information on the plugs and i found a guy with a titan used NGK vs Pulstar on a dyno and the pulstar gave him more horsepower. If you want to take a look, click here: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tita...o-testing.html
yes there are 4.6's that have the plug breaking problem also but they have the 3v head just like the 5.4......

I dont think they put the 3v 4.6 in f-150's until after they fixed the plug design in 08. Not positive on that. I know Mustangs got the 3v 4.6 but I'm not sure f-150s did until 08+ when they no longer had the 2 piece plug.

you're correct........actually f150's didn't get it until the nbs in 09.....what I was referring to is the fact is that at the time some dealerships were afraid to do plug changes on anything and we also know how well informed some of the dealership service writers are.....

In general any Ford vehicle mfg from 04-07 with the 3v head on the 4.6/5.4 will have the broken plug issue...check the cop boots......black is bad and brown is good......

I'll be building a turbo setup within the next couple weeks, so ill be replacing the plugs with some Denso Iridium's. I'll post pics of the pulstar plugs when I pull them out, they probably have 25,000 on them.
