Misfire # 4 CYL Spark Plug Mystery 5.4 Triton

2000 F-150, 5.4
Engine scanner shows Misfire # 4 CYL

Pulled COP and cant seem to get a socket on the plug. Took photo and plugs seems to be surrounded by an object. Anyone every run into this?
I've read as much as I could but nothing clear. Am I nuts? Or are my eyes deceiving me?

You can simply input the text from the image code (once uploaded to a picture share like photobucket or image shack) here in the text.

Man, that looks bad, can't really tell what it is other than a LOT of debri and corrosion. Try an air compressor and blowing it out, maybe pick up a small pick/scraper set and dig away at it. No wonder you have a misfire. I was thinking maybe your heater hose was leaking into that plug bore (common) but I don't see any fluids in there, looks pretty dry. Although, there is quite a bit of oil/fluid build up on top. Was the cop boot in tact when it was removed?

COP boot was intact but had evidence of rust all around. not to mention boot was split and cracked. this truck has always been trouble free until now. Yeah pretty weird, that crap is hard as a rock. gonna try to loosen it up and get it out there. Ever seen anything like that before?

I personally have not. I'm sure someone has though. That plug must be 3/4 buried. Gotta be an inch thick whatever it is. Still possible its corrosion caused by a coolant leak from one of the heater hoses in the past or current maybe. Not sure but something to keep your eyes on. Main thing is to get it cleaned out somehow. Get that plug out of there and changed. Probably overheated from build up around it and is fouled out. If you have a harbor freight around, they have pick/scraper sets with long handles for about $5

Okay, First off wanted to thank those who "guided" my way. Toyz, you win the prize and guessed the correct "depth". That dam plug was buried well over 3/4".
Ace thanks for the advice on PB. that did the trick. All is well with the 150 now.

thanks again

Glad to see its fixed. Was that the only plug that was like that? Could have a leaky heater hose or leak in the intake gasket around that area causing that. Keep your eyes on it and for anymore misfires on the #4
