180 ford f150 with a 302
I just bought a single cab long 1980 ford f150 V8 automatic transmission its got an edelbrock 4 barrel carb and edlebrock intake a paper weight (carb spacer) lt headers truedualed with glass packs how much power will i lose if i take the carb the spacer and the intake off and go back to stock, also i want to pull the lts off and put shorties and cut the glass packs of and run magnapacks will this setup sound and run good? Also there are no cats
Does it run OK now?
What are you trying to accomplish by going back to the stock carb and replacing your exahust?
Are you looking to improve fuel mileage and make it quieter?
How big a carb is on there now? It's a common mistake to put too big a carb on. A stock cam 302 just does not need a big carb, IMO, but a right size 4 barrel should be an improvement over your stock carb.

I want ot stop getting speeding tickets and try to get it as close to factory as i can i belive its a 750 cfm carb it was on there when i got the truck, i dont want it to be quiet i just dont like the raspy poping sounds of the glass packs, the exhaust system needs to be replaced anyway because of rust, id like to save a little more gas but im getting about 13 mpg city now, can i put a smaller 4 barrel and up grade my cam to get better mileage?
you have a 1980 truck (30years old..) Probably no overdrive and all. 13 is about right. Get some quite mufflers and all leave the LT headers. Ed make a 625 cfm carb thats the one I have on my mach I and I bet its what you have make sure that its a 750 before you dink with it. Ed carbs are great as far as simplicity goes and a 625 carb would be good for that engine it would be odd the previous owner put a 750 on it.
Stop driving crazy and you wont get anymore tickets..

i wouldn't think anyone would try to mate a Chevy transmission to a Ford engine. are you sure it's not the Ford AOD trans? are you sure it actually has OD and you're not just hearing your torque converter lock up (which would kinda feel like a "shift)
I've heard of drag racers getting custom built power glides for there Fords actually very common. Never heard of a 700R going into a ford with a ford engine but could be a specialty deal who knows. I doubt he has a 700R
Definitly has o/d i feel it kick in about 55mph and like i said 3 or 4 trans shops say 700r4 the punk kid i bought it from tried turning it into a hot rod even though it goes o-60 in 2 weeks...
I didn't see any mention of a cam mod. If it has the stock cam, the intake and carb are your problem. The factory setup came with a 2150 2 barrel carb rated at 400 cfms. The 750 is gross over kill and if it's a stock cam, I'm wondering how it runs at WOT because a carb that big on a stock cam should make it bog down and flood out. Max carb on most any modded 302 is 650 and that's with machine work done. If the intake is an aluminum model, do not remove the carb spacer unless you like walking. It's there to insulate the carb from the heat and keeping the gas in the carb from boiling. I'd look around for another driver at a young age with a similar truck that might wanna swap your setup for his 2 barrel. You probably could put some change in yer pocket too.
As far as i know its a stock cam i got it from someone who got it from his grandpa and tried to turn it into a race truck, it runs good right now but it does bog down at traffic lights every now and then i think i will find some one that will trade me and hope that helps
