This letter specifically states that Ford will pay for repair to injectors that are stuck open or closed. But earlier in the letter it says this stuck condition could result in "damage to other powertrain components." Does anyone have any experience making a claim under this extended warranty?

I had one stick open hydrolocking my engine, flooding a combustion chamber and snapping a rod. I got a new short block, an injector, and all labor and related fluids free as a result.

Yikes! That sure qualifies as major "damage to other components." Glad to hear Ford took care of you.

Never gonna happen. The plugs are not failing installed in the engine and causing collateral damage.

Hello all. I found this post after my F150 blew its engine last night. I am wondering if this could be the cause of my engines demise. How do I go about finding out if this is what caused it. I have owned the truck for almost 4 yrs and have already gone thru the 1G spark plug change and it is just under 60K. It is a local driver since I have owned it (7k/yr). Sorry to be all over the place with the info but I need to determine if I am leaving it with my local mechanic or sending it to Ford.

Well you could drop it off at Ford, and at the least you'd only be out a diagnostic fee if it wasn't the injectors that caused the failure. If it was then Ford would have to fix it. That is of course if yours has the 5.4 3v engine.

Yes, I do have a 5.4. Would it then be safe to assume then that it also has the 3v? Thanks for your quick response.

If it's a 2005 then yes it's a 3v. That's what I have too.

If you have experienced the fuel injector problem taking it to an independent mechanic won't do you any good. I'd take it to the Ford dealer and take it from there.

I can't say for certain that I have had an injector problem, but from what I have read here and elsewhere the above mentioned "hydrolocking" seems to be a possibilty. I can not stomach the cost of an engine on a 5 yr old truck.

You're welcome.

From my experience the only clues I had that things were awry is I had a few hard starts up until the day the injector stuck open. I pulled over at that point because I knew it was about to let loose. I pulled the code with my tuner, and called the dealer to tell him my truck was coming in because I had an injector sticking. My service adviser is cool and a good guy.

The truck sat overnight, and when the tech tried to start the truck to get it into the service bay the rod let loose. It's all history from there, Ford covered everything, with exception of the other 7 injectors I paid to have replaced, because on blown motor experience for me is enough. I couldn't handle the possibility of seven more times.

Hopefully for you that's what is the culprit. Glad I could help.
