To All,
Would a stuck or sticking valve create sputtering in a power band range?

With my truck, between 45 & 55mph when I step on the throttle for a hard acceleration the truck shudders and jerks. If I let go of the throttle and then get back on it the problem goes away until the next time I try it. Also black smoke comes from the exhaust. If I accelerate steadily from 35 thru 60mph this problem does not arise.

Could this be a stuck valve. I am at 95k with orig spark plugs.

You know it's the plugs, they need to be changed.

To pyro 383

Hey bud,

Sound like to me you have a stopped up fuel filter. Think about it if you ease on the throttle it doesn't do it. If you stomp it and request all that fuel it won't deliver because its restricted. So i recommend a new fuel filter to start.

I didn't read you whole post that you had 95,000 on original plugs......I'd look into those as well.

My truck is one of the '05's covered under the extended warranty. I've not seen any CEL light yet but occasionally I see a puff of white smoke from tailpipe at startup and sometimes the engine will "pop"(starter straining?) a little bit when cranking and require a second twist of the key to fire.

I'm tempted to go ahead and change the injectors before I run into any further problems including possibly damaging the engine? I can get them for $35 each and think I can do them myself keeping total cost under 300. I've got new spark plugs within the last 1000 mi, but original coils and boots. Engine seems to run ok after starting except the idle could be smoother.

Motorcraft SP515's, Motorcraft fuel filter, Purolator air filter all new within last 1000 mi.

Opinions?

You can check them to see if they are leaking. If they are, it can ruin your cats.

Lift the fuel rail, keeping the injectors still attached. Put paper under the injectors and turn the key on, look for drips. Ford will replace the ones that leak under the satisfaction program if you are still in the mileage limit.

I thought the recall problem was for internal leaks into the cylinder? Not external?

That's how fuel gets from the injector into the cylinder - through the tip. If it drips under pressure, it's leaking through the tip which should be closed until the PCM tells the injector to fire. The paper goes under the tips.................

Oh ok, I will need to unplug the injectors from the cylinders and rest the tips on the paper, I was missing that part. Seems simple enough...thanks!

One other question, I can unplug the fuel rail from the cylinders with all the electrical still hooked up?

Engine codes

Good day to all. I have a 2005 Expedition that recently lost power as I returned from a 300 mile trip. I took it to the local Auto Zone and had them put it on the machine.
I got codes P0011, P0022, P0302, P0305, P0307, P0308, P2198. The guy who helped me had no clue to what was going on. Can someone please give me some help. It will be much appreciated. I was told possible cam phasers.

This letter specifically states that Ford will pay for repair to injectors that are stuck open or closed. But earlier in the letter it says this stuck condition could result in "damage to other powertrain components." Does anyone have any experience making a claim under this extended warranty?
