It is NOT a recall, it's a customer satisfaction warranty extension. If you take it in and ask them to check the injectors and they are okay, you will be charged for the labor.

5.4 injector problems

I have an 08 with 54500 miles on it. I took the time to call my service manager, to let him know of the 04-08 problem. he got back with me and said there is nothing he can find from ford. In the form of a recall or a memo telling the dealers of this problem, here is what he told me don't worry you have bought an extra warranty that covers you until 2018 and 98000 miles.

If something happens i am sure we will take care of it Nice guy and all and has helped me on some other issues on some other cars. But if there is something they know about this I think it is a chick **** way to not fix this problem.

Do you folks think It will be ok with the 2008
model 5.4 3 valve. I take long trips 300 miles away from home i can't afford to get stuck out in the desert @110 to 115 degrees.Any input from any body would be appreciated. I also tow a 6000 lbs boat behind me. so any info would be greatly helpful

Hi.

No worries. This was specific to the 2005 model year only. Not a '04-'08 problem (although hear-tell a few of the 'bad' injectors made it into '06 production).

Clueless service managers are not rare. Just copy the letter and give it to him to attempt to enlighten him if you wish. Likely won't change anything though. I suspect he's aware but is playing dumb - also not rare. Remember - these fellers are NOT yer friends, lol.

BTW:

You are approaching the mileage at which you should be considering a plug change (60K).

Being it's an '08, you may have one of two head designs:

COP number 8L3E = MC SP509 one-piece plugs ( brown COP boots)

COP number 3L3E = MC SP515 two-piece plugs ( black COP boots)

Just perform yer due-diligence preventative maintenance as necessary and enjoy.

For peace of mind....

As I explained in one of my earlier posts, I had this problem in my '06 and even if there was no danger of engine damage, it's still a PIA to have to deal with hard starting. I had replaced all of the spark plugs and when the dealer finally did replace the bad injector, he had to replace one of the new plugs as it was so fouled with gas and residue from the overly rich mixture in that cylinder. The computer test will not necessarily find this problem. As was stated in an earlier post, the fuel rails and injectors have to be removed from the head and put under pressure to find the leaky one(s).

I had one stick open hydrolocking my engine, flooding a combustion chamber and snapping a rod. I got a new short block, an injector, and all labor and related fluids free as a result.

Those of you who think you know it all are very annoying to those of us who do.

I have a 2005 f150 lariat, 87K miles. I just changed the plugs, none broke fortunately. But now I am getting codes P0308, P0420 and the truck is running rough. Should I change the cat or change the fuel injector? Or maybe both?

It may be interesting to check both the fuel injector and the catalytic converter given the codes you're seeing, P0308 (cylinder 8 misfire) and P0420 (catalytic converter efficiency). Misfires typically start at the cylinder 8 fuel injector, so start there. If issues continue, you might want to look into or change the catalytic converter. Make that there are no additional issues causing harsh running, such as vacuum leaks. spelling bee answers
