Exhaust leak

We put a new motor in my truck and I cant get the freaking exhaust manifolds to seal up to the exhuast pipe. The exhaust on both sides are leaking we have dropped the exhaust from the manifolds 3 times and tried to get it to seal up but no luck. Its alot better now but it still leaks.Any suggestions on how to ge it to seal up better? There isnt a donut gasket in it is there?

are any of the studs broke? If they are all biting good, and the gasket is good.. Well, that makes a seal, unless they are warped and the mating surfaces are uneven. Are you disconnecting it at the flanges and down where the tranny mount is, then hook the manifold up, connect the flanges and then the last hanger by the tranny mount. That way there is no stress on the manifold. When I put my new motor in, the passenger flange didnt want to line up.. instead of tweaking it over with a bar (which would have added stress to the manifold) I loosened as many mounts as I could, till it fit naturally. Then bolted it up and tightened all the mounts back up.

what gasket? I thought the exhaust just went over manifold. Is there a donut gasket that goes around the manifold?

Which connection are you talking about, the manifold to the head or manifold flanges. I thought you meant the manifold to the head. I'm guessing your talking about the flange connection, with 2 studs on each side? I don't believe there is a gasket there. But that is what I was talking about on mine, I had issues with the passenger side until I undid the exhaust hanger at the transmission cross member, then it moved easier. And as I tightened the flange, I went from side to side to make sure the flange seated evenly. Otherwise 1 side wanted to creep up on the other, making it uneven.

Yeah I am talking about from the manifold to the flange with the 2 studs. We have done everything dropped the whole exhaust. We even got it up there perfectly straight and tightend each nut 1 turn at a time going back and forth back and forth. And it still leaks!! I'm just tired of hearing it.Didnt know if anyone else had this problem. Also how much torque can those studs take? We didn't hit it with a impact we tightend it up by hand until the studs started to creek.dont wanna break one!!

Did you use the old exhaust manifolds that were on your trucks original engine or did you use the manifolds that came with the new engine or buy new manifolds. Reason I'm asking is because manifolds from other year and model trucks may not line up with the exhaust on your truck.

Manifolds on the new motor. Didnt think about that. I'm gonna have to measure tomorrow. If they are off its not by much looks like it should seal up but it wont.

yep they are off just a bit. I noticed that when I swapped engine and swapped the manifolds. That and the wrecking yard guys damaged the ones on the replacement engine..
