The only thing plug related I can think of mine might be would be the dielectric grease wasnt installed correctly, I put it on the insides of the boot ends, around the spring. I know the plugs are torqued correctly, that was a must. Other than the light bit of oil that potentially got on the threads while lubing the cylinders before the swap in which I torqued them a bit lighter, around 25lbs, Think there were 2 or 3 of them. I'm going to pull them anyways just to see. The weird part is, with a stethoscope I couldn't hear the noise anywhere around the plugs or coils. I put the stethoscope on the top of each coil and they sounded normal, same with the injectors, valve covers and oil pan. I can hear it standing outside my truck on the drivers side wheel well, thats what got me to stethoscope the upper cat and that is where I can hear it the loudest. I want to pull the plugs anyway just to clean the grease off the boots/plug ends. Its a pretty noticeable sound, especially when driving next to a building or what not, it echos.

The noise started about 2 weeks ago.

I also have that vibration at 3500-4000 rpms I originally thought was the rear diff.. But later was found that even in park and reving it, at those rpms its still there and shutters/vibrates.. Guess it could be a misfire

Plug: - Not that you would notice, - not until it totally blew away from the head anyway.

Wire:- Not if it's making it's connection. A Coil could be over pulsing, - What these coils do is convert a low volt signal (from the PCM) to pulse. A coil that hot (over pulse) has a short life, but for now it just may be hanging in there.

The problem didn't come about until you tuned her up, so you have the right idea, -go over your work first. Double check your plugs. I hope nothings rattling around in one of the cylinders or lodged up in the head somewhere now - I guess that would be the worst that could of happened, but I would have to hear the sound.

You need to confirm a few things.

1. You sure this didn't start until after the tune up, -is that correct?

2. The spark noise is loud enough that you can hear it with the hood shut (truck idling of course) ? How loud is it ?

If the plugs all seem to be torqued properly after checking them, you can also pull the boots from the coils and make the springs are solidly connected to the coil blades, -then re-grease if needed. I made a video - Proper way to grease up a coil if you need it. I have that somewhere lol.

That's about all you can do to cover your work, -hope you find out what it is.

Good luck

Toyz, yea, stethoscoping usually don't lie. lost cause, you might want to do the same. I'd like to know what is, I hope one of you guys find out exactly. A forward cat would make sense if both of you were misfiring at some point , recently. I just haven't heard a spark noise from a converter before. That's exactly what I would have done though, stethoscope. You can use a variety of tools in the shop to so lol.

thanks for all the input jbrew. As for the second question on your last post, the noise only occurs when i am in drive and giving the truck gas. It does not make any noise at idle nor when i give it gas i park or neutral. the other question that i have is can you put too much dielectric grease in the boots of the coils? when i did it i just put it on the end of the spark plug before installing. thanks again.

well, im an idiot. lol. Just to let you guys know who were trying to help my out that i figured out my problem. I got someone else to drive my truck while i stood outside it and realized that the ticking/sparking noise was not coming from the exhaust. It was coming from my u-joint. It was a coincidence that the noise occured after replacing the plugs and coils and i automatically assumed it was due to that. replaced the u joints and good to go. thanks for the help.
