Carburating an EFI engine

I have an 88 460 EFI engine that I want to revert back to a Carb set up w/dual four barrels. I just wanted to know if I need anything besides the upper intake for it?

Not speaking from specific knowledge, but as I remember, carbed engines use a one piece intake.

You'll need to change the cam or expect it to fall on it's face at rpms above 3000. You'll need to change the heads if really going with a 2- 4 setup. The stock heads won't flow enough and the engine will bog down pretty bad....unless the carbs are really small and even then you'll have issues. If you want a screamer, take that 385 block, bore it .030, put a 429 crank in it, push about 12.5:1 pistons with a decent high rev cam with lots of lift, get the competition Holley carbs, MSD system, good headers, a 200 squirt NOs, and make double sure you have a rev limiter set at about 9000. I ran something close to this in a jet boat turning 10,000 rpms, or at least that's where the limiter cut it off. I ended up with a blower on mine but that engine would not be able to run on the street. Make sure to use a high volume oil pump, all high rev parts like lifters, chain gear, etc., and I'd spend the money to have the entire rotating mass balanced. These large engines are killer but can rip themselves apart if not balanced when making big HP.

Read labnerd's reply.

You will have better performance with a single 4 barrel carb. If this is for a truck, use a dual plane intake. A 750 cfm carb is a good size. You can put mechanical secondaries if you want, but vacuum is better for a lower rpm truck application. The 750 vac carb and dual plane intake will match your stock engine and not much more needed besides a stand-alone distributor and wiring changes. Remember a carb needs approx 6 psi and your fuel injection uses much higher. A regulator or new fuel pump is required.

If you are trying to buld the engine up for racing or high performance, then you need to change a lot of parts. 460 is a good engine that can make a lot of power if you have the right combination of parts. That means if you have two four barrel intake that you also have better heads, big cam, lighter pistons with more compression, balanced, roller valvetrain, etc.

Ok, its not going to anything special now, just stock for the time being. I am still deciding whether I am going to go for a C6 or 5spd Manual. I want the 5spd because I NEED to have full control over my vehicles, I am very unconfortable with slushboxes aka auto's.

I have a line on a 72ish Lincoln 460 and C6 running and driving that I may swap in if its in good enough shape. It will be going into my 97 once I have everything together.

Any good bolt on suggesting for a DD (daily driver) with some heavy pedal habits?

If you want a manual, you are going to have to find a ZF5 out of a Superduty.

I have the donor out of the 88 as well, just going to swap it to 2wd at my shop. Probably won't be doing the dual 4 barrel set up until the motor is built, depending on funding it will be between the 460 and a TT on the current V6 gonna hash out the financials on my end and decide in the next while.
