interesting. what else would you need to complete that kit. it says in the description its a partial kit, although he doesn't give a list of what it includes. i can't really tell from the picture as i have no idea what a complete kit includes in the first place.

i emailed the seller asking what else would be needed to make this work. here is his response:

Parts included are those shown which are head unit, mount
bracket, intake piping/tubing, hose clamps, online fuel pump,
bypass valve. You would need parts like fmu, oil lines,
mounting hardware, air inlet tubing, possibly tuner.

are the parts needed available anywhere? does that even make it worth buying the kit as it is? i don't know how much those additional parts would cost if they are even available.

teh inlet ducting can be handled by any muffler shop, forget the FMU, you want larger injectors, fuel pump, MAF and a cutom tune anyway

nut's and bolts come from the parts store (home dept, lowe's etc) unless teh spacers are missing, and it looks like the crank pulley is missing

i looked over the installation instructions on vortech's web site. it seems like some pretty important parts are missing from this guy's "kit". i'm thinking it might not really be worth it to buy since i might have a hard time finding some of the needed parts. like the crank pulley as you mentioned.

so you say i don't need the FMU? what exactly is that anyway? from what you said basically something to make my stock injectors fuel pump, etc work with the supercharger? so the bigger injectors, fuel pump, MAF and custom tune would replace the missing FMU?

also, correct me if i'm wrong but the vortech kit doesn't use an intercooler correct? so the only thing i would need is to get the piping made up, upgraded fuel system/MAF, custom tune and get all the necessary nuts/bolts?

the FMU is a band-aid to keep add on supercharger kits cheaper, what it does, is it over pressures your fuel rails/stock injectors so you can run the boost, it does leave a lot of power/driveability on the table and is harder to adjust

in order to run the FMU on your stock injectors/MAF you still need a larger fuel pump, anyone that's switched from a FMU to "fuel mods" (injectors, fuel pump MAF and tune) will tell you they will never run a FMU again

I'm going to contact the guy on ebay about that vortech kit I posted earlier (I didn't read the entire add, I posted the link to show you that partial kits can and do pop up for cheap all the time) and ask some questions

I don't want you to thnk I'm trying to pressure you into buying it because I'm not, I was just throwing it out there as an example

best thing to do is set a budget, and start shopping around and when you find a supercharger set up within your budget - ask a ton of questions there's many guys on this board who are not "cookie cutter" hot rodders who an help you come up with readily available aftermarket parts to fill the voids of what any partial kit is missing to make it worth your time to ask around and research different set ups people are running.

for another example there's a guy who just paid over $800 for a lightning eaton and intake assembly, now he's got about $1500-$2000 in parts he still needs just to get it running where I pieced one together for $1200 with upgraded parts (why did I do it, because I outgrew teh ATI set up on my green truck and it was cheaper to switch to an eaton set up and gain a lil' performance VS upgrading the ATI kit and now I've got a spare supercharger I can bolt onto the wife's expedition

thanks for the explanation.

no pressure. i'm just genuinely interested to know what would be needed to make that kit work. if not for that particular kit, for one possibly in the future.

also, i've never looked into supercharging before, so i really have no clue what these parts go for. all i know is that a brand new kit is upward of $4k. the used market seems to be all over the place as far as price as well as what's included.

you can snag used parts off of the lightning forums for decent prices as people step up to larger parts
