Disconnect one fuel injector at a time (electrically) to try to narrow it down to a particular cylinder that's doing it.

Pulled each plug wire and also pulled each fuel injector plug, each action caused the motor to run worse.

However, neither of these action caused the loud clanking that going on.

What did I screw-up?

thanks

jack

That's strange. I'll ask again, - you sure you didn't cross the wires, it's easy to do.

Hi JBrew,

Just to be sure, went out and traced all the wires back to the proper location on the coil. They're all where they should be.

Thanks for any and all suggestions. I'm stuck.

Hi , this does suck, what's your CEL doing ? Is it on ?

Is it missing? Your PCV valve can make it sound that way if you put a fram in it.

If you didn't blow out the plug chamber holes first, debris could have ended up inside a cylinder and you could have a bent a valve. ?

Look at your harness over by the AC accumulator, -that long aluminum canister deal. Is the wiring harness resting on top of that? While the engine is running, pull the harness further away, listen for a change in idle while you do.

Used a stethescope (sp) to hear each inject working. Also found good suction on the PCV valve which also rattled freely.

HI JBrew,

Yes, I blew each opening with compressed air before removing the plug. Also lifted the wires by the collector. No change in idle.

Also, look at the harness before you pull it away, sometimes you can bare a wire if it was resting on the accumulator. The accumulators Mag field can cause ignition havoc if it's to close.

What did you do to it lol ?

Somethings not right here. Did you get the coil wet by chance?

It was running fine before the plug change right ?

Inspected the wires by the accumulator and restarted the engine. Seems like (probably my imagination) that the intensity of the clacking has gone done but still there.

I cannot isolate where this noise is coming from. Is there something else that might be going bad that I should be checking?

Might be time to do a compression test.

Hi JBrew,

It's louder than a miss. More like a clanking noise. I heard this noise a few times over the past several years on cold mornings and chalked it up to "piston slap".

Thanks for any thoughts
