quick question about 97 4.6 to 2000 4.6 swap

This question is for a friends truck. He has a 97 4.6 auto 4x4 and has a 4.6 motor from a 2000 he wants to swap in. He is under the impression he has to have the truck harness, engine harness and computer from the 2000. Is there any truth to that or is there just a few parts that need to be switched around. Thanks

The only thing he'll have to for sure is have it tuned for PI heads. Might be best to swap intakes and run the coil pack ignition thats the easy and practical way. Then just get a custom tune.

He can't swap the intakes as the pre PI (97) intake will not mate with PI cyl heads. PI intake and PI heads only work together. He can use his current 97 PCM, engine harness, and main harness if he uses the coil packs and the throttle body only from the 97 as jethat suggested. He has to also make sure that the cyl head on the 2000 have the CHT (Cyl head temp) sensor hole port in the valley side of the front driverside head. I assume it's a 2000 truck engine, if so it should be there. Some of the car heads also have them. The 97 has two ECT sensors in the intake manifold (front)one for the temp gauge the other for the PCM. He may need to drill a hole in the intake of the 2000 to install one of them as I think the 2000 only has one. Or install it in the heater hose as I did with mine(easier) He may want a tune for the PCM but probably not necessary as the compression on a complete PI engine with flat top pistons is not an issue. The pistons on a 97 pre PI are dished so compression is increased to almost 10:1 when PI heads are installed over them. There are a few other minor changes but overall it's a pretty straight forward swap. Good luck

This is the stuff I'm looking for...at least some of it. Good info guys.
Are the PI heads the same as the Mustang and Crown heads?

Thanks
