Question gas all on the driveway!!!! Question??

So, I search the forum to install a new fuel filter on my 06 f150. Looks pretty simple. I go out and buy the parts and I'm given a Motorcraft FG986B. It matches what is in the post so I'm good to go, right?? Wrong!!! I install it, takes me about 30 minutes. For some reason it just seems like it isn't fitting properly. Anyways, I go to start the truck and blam!!! Gas all over the driveway. After I'm done cursin' up a storm, I take a look at the old fuel filter and it doesn't even match the new part that was given to me. Motherchucka!!! I even call around to other stores and they all want to give me this 986 Fuel filter. I then search the Ford parts website and it lists both numbers 1083 and 986B, but why is it that 1083 is the only one that will work eventhough all the parts stores around are trying to sell me the 986B??????

Simple. Always make sure you have the correct part when you go to do the work.

There was a midyear change. The 986 is for early 06's, the 1083 is for the later 06's. The parts store should have asked you for your build date.

Thanks guys

It is interesting that they would change fuel filters half way thru the year. Anyways, I'll go to ford tomorrow to get the right part. I also hate those blue clips. What bastards!!

The blue clips are easy. Just slide the fuel line tool into the line that has the blue clip while pushing the line towards the filter, then the blue clip releases, then separate the line from the filter. Do the front the same way. It's really easy once you figure it out.
