Yea, I ramble way to much

The OP-chiaronate paid about the same price for that scanner as I did for a reader. I purchased this one (CP9125) -

Comes in handy, but that's all it does is scan DTC's and lets you know what monitors have completed.

Mainjet - ya slay me man

Pop in over @ GD and say hi - the 'Litterbugs' need another team member to fend off the slack-jawed, knuckledraggin' mouthbreathers over there

jbrew - I wasn't saying you talk to much, I was saying that the question has been asked so much that you have answered is dozens of times already.

MGDfan - was is "GD"? I always thought I knew what it meant but now you have me wondering?

That would be the General Discussion forum on this site

Yeah I'm not replacing all of them, just when each burns out. Awhile back I was figuring out how to change the pcv valve and disconnected the hose, not knowing coolant would pour out..maybe that went toward this one being faulty. The cops the auto parts stores sell, is it a bad idea to use those, or are they just as good?

That's why I'm getting the code scanner, but from what I've heard on here, I'll have to wait 'till the cel comes on with the scanner I'm getting..I still haven't called the company and found out yet.

I'm telling you, as I've said on page one, it won't work. Your throwing your money away. A scanner is good to have, but it won't tell you what you need to know.

Unless you've had a blinking MIL or CEL, in that case, -Auto zone will tell you for free. On page one, -describes what Ford uses to test. That equipment is thousands of dollars.

Well then I'll just wait for the cel..I made a spur of the moment purchase and should have researched more. That's ok though because of the convenience factor, I won't have to rely on an auto parts store and their business hours.

Well, the longer you wait, the more damage your doing to your vehicle. Your dumping raw unburnt fuel into the system which is coating your O2 sensors and worse destroying your converters. Inturn, they may implode, fracture or break the bricks. -Price one of those $$$ . You were given the cheap way out to a healthy running vehicle and even the link. Take advantage or take your chances. Either way, I can tell you really don't care for your investment. That alone will have a costly outcome.

Good Luck.

I just noticed the service engine soon light flashed last night, but went off and didn't come on again..there should be a code for a scanner to read, yes? I'm going to go to Advance and have them use their scanner..if it tells which cop, I'll buy one there.

Jbrew - when you only feel the shudder occasionally what does that indicate? Is it firing sometimes but not others or is it happening all the time and you just don't feel it until the load is increased?

That's called a "low grade" misfire. That's' a Blinking CheckEngineLight ( Your CEL will blink, it will blink during occurrence only, then shut back off, -IF your computer picks it up)

The only way I've been able to generate this is to push the engine when it starts to act up/miss. Sounds crude, but it doesn't hurt it, as long as you don't keep doing so over an over again.

A low grade misfire usually happens @ 45 -50 mph, right after the shift into OD under normal acceleration. When it begins to shudder, you give it more fuel to enhance until your light begins blinking. Once she winks at yuh,you have a DTC stored in your KAM (KeepAliveMemory), whether your CEL remains on or not.

So if your CEL has ever blinked, scan it to direct you to the problem cylinder. A blinking CEL means one thing ONLY = Misfire and your computer (Misfire Monitor) has detected this.

One thing to remember, if indeed your CEL has blinked and the scan didn't show DTC or problem cylinder, you must get it to blink during the misfire ONE more time. Then your sure to have a DTC stored in the KAM- scan one more time....Bingo! - Sometimes you have to get this to occur twice within the same drive cycle.

Not really. There are more people with high mileage and no problems than there are with problems. I have 9 years and 141K on stock COPs and plugs. I will probably change both in the spring as I am probably pushing my luck but my truck has never had a CEL come on.
