Hello I am looking for a straight forward answer as will a 2004 4.6 out of E 150 will swap into a 1998 F 150 I will change over intake and exhaust. Thanks Bill in Cody

 

yes, the 98 is non pi and the 04 is pi so you will have to use the intake that is on the 04 along with the exhaust.

 

Correct and I would consider using the original 98 front cover and damper and the coil packs on the new engine as well. By using the 98 front cover you don't have to change the belt, A/C, P/S, or alternator as they all have the wide belt pulleys. You may want to purchase new exhaust manifolds for your 98 truck and install them before you put the new engine in, I'm not sure if the van exhaust manifolds will match up with your 98 F150 exhaust head pipes. Also the oil filter adapter may have to be reused from the 98. Good luck.

 

Are the exhaust ports not different from pi to non? That was the onyl reason why i said to use the 04 manifolds. I would not mess with changing the front cover and all that just for the 8rib setup, their is no real gain by doing so. I would use the wiring harness and coil pack setup for sure.

 

I just installed PI heads on my 97 f150 and bought new exhaust manifolds for the 97 pre PI heads, they bolted right on the PI's and work great. You may be right about the front cover change. I just figure while you have it out of the vehicle it's easy to swap out everything you can to make the transition easy. I would also mention using the throttle body adapter and throttle body from the 98 as well as it makes reconnecting vac lines, EGR, IAC,etc.a snap.
