You can google what it does easily. They can go bad, but not usually. When they go bad there's usually signs of fluid leakage from their sealed bearing. I thought my old one was bad, just from age, but as it turned out, a new one didn't make much difference. New pulleys did.
Only 4 13mm bolts hold the water pump on.The hardest part is getting the old pump to break loose from the block.I piece of wood and some tapping with a hammer and the is came free.
^ on my buddys 94 chevrolet i did the stupid thing and grabed the pulled..then put my weight one it..and when it broke free (finally) it slamed my finger with 210 pounds (me) the water pump, smashed all that onto the harmonic balancer..yea cut the finger down to the bone.
Ouch, where you a man and just use some duck tape to cover it up and finish fixing the truck.LOL I was in the garage with the father-in-law one day, he had a tail light out on a older dodge ram truck. He was trying to do something with pair of junky wire strippers, next thing I knew he just flipped out walked out of the garage threw the cutters acorss the road, as he is swearing up a storm, then grabs the tail light and just rips it out.I then just walked into the house and left him alone.
haha yea i finished the job..i had to run my finger under the waterhose..it was february..after the pain went down a little i grabbed a couple shop rags and taped them onto my finger...took a while but i got it done!!!

Man that hurts don't it!! I did that with a grinder, not quite to the bone but it hogged out a nice chuck of meat. Took forever to grow back, but it did after the second tube of Neosporin and 10th application of Windex.
