PI heads

Alright i have came across a guy who is saling used pi heads in good shape. I don't really need to spend money on this right now but i do want them for my 97' 4.6. I offered him 250, the least he would do is 300. Thats still a good deal isn't it? Do you think i need to snag these up or not?

if you dont need to spend the money then dont!!! 97's werent PI anyways and you would have to spend alot more putting them in. 300 is a good deal but i wouldnt do it cuz theres really no point

I kno my 97 doesn't have PI heads that's why i want them. 300's like half price i think. I wouldn't get them installed right away, but are you sure i should pass this deal up? I prolly not going to but that kinda deal won't come around too often. im not really hurting for any money just don't need to speend it on this.
But man i think $300 is a pretty sweet deal!

300 is a good deal, if you want them that bad get them. i just dont see a point in it unless you just want that extra 20 horses. wont you need a new intake as well?

yeah but i wouldn't install right away so. it's 20 more horses but you can also get more power out of them with intake than the stock 97 heads. I was pretty sure 300 was a good deal, but i won't be getting them now bc it's not that good of a deal if i really dont have the cash for theis particular item right now. i'd rather pay off some debt.

I was hoping someone would say that that was about right for a used set, but oh well they might as well be $600 right now i guess.

thanks

It's not a great deal! But about the going rate for PI heads.
You can find them anywhere for that price all day long.
I just sold a set for $200.

you can get fully dressed pi heads from ford racing for 400 a side . dont know if that a deal or not but on your 4.6 you put some yams in it and the pi heads will bump your compression up a full point and give you around 100 ponys. but i guess that not a lot huh?

I remember i read that thread a while back. I would love to do that but i cant afford 450 a side and those pi heads where stage 2 ported. I believe it was 150hp gain and 130ft lb gain!
To me, thats pretty impressive but i can't afford that. I would really love to find a set for about $150 or less. i could do that. That might be a long shot tho!

Yea , it's definetly worth doing to a non PI block. No porting required until it's justified

Just swap and tune, It's aleast a 60 hp gainer. - or maybe more depending in the person doing it. Pefect time to throw a set of cheap LT's as well, - 3 years running cheap LT's and can't complain.

I'd go for it. A N/PI engine with PI head will make more power than a regular PI engine, due to increased compression. Make sense?

I'm trying to decide which would be cheaper to do. And lookin to do this summer, june 2010. Eventually im going to run 35x12.50's on my truck as soon as these tires wear enough. Anyway even if i did the pi heads and headers would it give me enough low end torque to pull a 12ft trailer with around 2000-3000 pounds with the 35's on and 3:55's without eventually killin it or would i also have to regear it. For what i need would it be better/cheaper to just get a (99+) 2v 5.4/tranny with the LT's and CAI. Could i keep my stock gears and run 35's and pull the loaded trailer? I'd need to get a ecu from a 99+ also right?

Exactly. Higher compression w/high octane that burns slower more power and torque. Does that make sense ?? Hell no, is it true ? Sure is..

Higher compression + More flow. You'll want to top that off with an intake and exhaust and of course a custom tune. The 4six with the shorter stroke winds up quicker than the 5four, so you'll have improvements down low , but more up top.
