Sounds Like a Lifter Rattle on Start up!!!

When I start my engine I have a rattle noise coming from the engine. It goes away pretty quick and I don't have it any other time is this normal for the F-150 5.4 engine. I use Ford Motor Craft 5W/20 and I have tried other oils as well it seems to me that it takes a minute for the oil pump to pressurize. What do you all think?

Yes, are you using a Motorcraft filter? Some brands have an anti drain back that collapses and cause this.

Next time try the MC FL820-S. Would be almost willing to bet the rattle will go away, although a very few have still had it. It is caused by a dry start, where during the night the anti-drainback valve on the filter has let the oil drain back into the pan.

Pennzoil filters are made by Fram and do not have a proper anti-drainback valve.

Try a Motorcraft or Purolater filter, see if it still does it.

Hey your truck has a good stance can I ask what size wheels and tires you are running. I am getting ready to do a 2"AS leveling kit and I am kicking around whether or not to put 20" or 18" wheels on my 04. How does your truck ride did you lose anything with the big tires?

Those were 20" wheels with 33x12.50's on a 2" level kit. My MPG was garbage...low 12's city and 14 hwy. I ended up selling those wheels and rode 20" lariat wheels with 275/65's and an Edge Evo and routinely got 15 city & 20MPG on the hwy.
