I didn't read all through the 5 pages so If you did then disregard the following; Did you change the front O2 sensors in the last 50K? If not, change them.

I had a 171 and 174 forever but I replaced a rear sensor and it took those codes away... i dont have any codes. but I assume you say they dont have to throw a code to be bad?

What, -No Military axles under there yet??? How many rear gears so far lol ?

Wait! didn't you twist one side of the front axle too..?? Damn, -I would have to build everything but the motor first, or it would probably cost me twice as much in the long run lol.

Oh well, she must be running good

The first time I changed my sensors at 100k I remember changing my front sensors and the truck took on a new life. Bosch recommends every 100K. So now I change my front sensors every 50k. I then move the front sensors to the rear. That way the front sensors never have more than 50k usage and they stay fresher. They are the ones that the PCM uses for A/F calcs so they are more important than the rears.

Regards

Camaro, Did you recal the speedo/odo when you got the taller tires?

If not, then here's some numbers for you to ponder...

If your speedo is showning 70 mph, you are really going 77 mph

With the 33" tall tires, you now have an effective gear ratio of 3.22

At 2100 rpms in OD you are really going about 82 mph..

So, you are trying to maintain a faster speed then you or the computer thinks you are, so that might be throwing things off...

I know with even my 265/75/16 tires (31") I noticed a difference... I recallibrated the speedo/odo gear and it was much better.. I still have the 3.55 gears, but when the computer knew what the actual speed was, it did much better..

why can't you correct it? I have the speedo gear and that's what I did to correct mine...

If you don't correct it, the computer still thinks it's doing what the speedo is doing. That will make all the shift patterns go to heck and not sync right at all.

All you need to do is remove the little bolt that holds the speedo gear. It's on the top of the tail shaft on the trans. Remove the gear that's in there, count the number of teeth it has. Get one that has two teeth less (you want it to spin faster) and that should get you back about right.

I only needed one that was one tooth less because I didn't go up as big on the tire size...

But, it sure made a difference in how the truck drove, that's for sure.

It's a VSS gear (Variable Speed Sensor I think it's called) and I got mine from the local Ford Parts Counter. Cost about $10 if I recall... This was some 8 years ago, so maybe they don't carry them anymore??

2 teeth less would be my guess. Mine came with a 19 tooth gear. I put in an 18 tooth gear and it's almost bang on. (my speedo/odo was slower after putting on the taller tires)

With your taller tires, you will need to go even smaller, so a 17 tooth gear would seem like it would be about right...

my 07 f150 with the 5.4 has not had a muffler for 30k and still pulls as hard as day one. so all you guys that say no muffler kills power are so wrong its crazy. it could be plugged cats or O2 sensors but its certainly not beacuse os no muffler. To everyone who claims scavenging get real the muffler is way too far back for that. (flame suit on )
