I am experiencing a hesitation/intermitent rough idol. Seems to do it more when the A/C is turned on. Didn't make any recent changes to the truck that would cause issue, it just started happening. It usually only does it when I am at a stop light. I will be at idol just fine then the truck will sputter/hestitate/run rough for about 3 seconds, then go back to a normal idol. Sometimes it will just happen once, sometimes it is frequent. Here are the specs:

2002 KR Screw with 5.4l
k&n air filter
Granatelli COP's
Motorcraft plugs
Magnaflow exhaust
Xcaliber 3...still waiting on custom tunes

Truck worked fine when I changed the COP's and plugs. I have been running it for about 1,000 miles with that change.

I have no engine diagnostic codes that come up and all the COP's test well. The mechanic is stumped.

Any thoughts?

 

When is the last time the fuel filter was changed?

 

Clean the MAF. If you overoil a K&N it will get oil fouled.

 

Fuel filter was changed about 10,000 miles ago. I cleaned the MAF before I installed the K&N about 2,000 miles ago...but what you suggest makes sense. I will try that today.

I have 58k miles.

Cleaned the MAF sensor this morning and it was still acting up. IT is definantely worse when the A/C is running. i.e a load on the engine.

 

Seems to now be hesitating slightly upon acceleration, then works itself out of it.

 

Any thoughts Guys? Is it worth taking it to the Ford Dealership for more extensive testing?

I'm stuck on this one...
