Talking Just another build thread.

Ok so Im getting ready to do a 4.6 to 5.4 swap in my 97 f150 4x4. Its a maroon supercab flareside with a 6 inch fabtech lift and 37 inch toyos. Its raining right now so i can't take any pics of the truck but heres some pics of some of the parts ive got so far. Obx longtubes, MSD coil packs and wires, stage 8 locking bolts, NGK plugs, and magnaflow highflow cats.

I was super impressed with the quality of the OBX headers and mid pipes. They easily rival the dynatechs, without the cats, and there a good 600 bucks cheaper. I know i should buy US made products but for the price i couldnt pass it up.

OBX's look good.
Here's a tip,
edit your post so the pics are on top of each-other! It will be better for us to view and a lot easier to read your post without sliding waaaayyy across the page..lol

If your putting in a 5.4 why aren't you using the COPs?

Phil

And because it is a 97 4.6 it has the coils to start with and it will run just fine with the coils and wires so didnt feel the need to switch computers and wiring harness and all. Most of the people ive talked to that have done this swap in a 97 or 98 have said thats the way to go.

That's what I thought. Your probably better off without the COPs anyway.

I have a 94 F150 Long bed reg cab. It's at home but I did have it up here for a while. Right now I am driving my beater honda because I don't care if it gets door dings. In fact, it has a huge door ding and i would have been really mad if it happened to my truck. I don't have any pics of my truck handy but you can email me at floor_board at hotmail.com and i'll give ya my name so i can add ya on facebook where i have pics of my truck and car.

Anyway, good luck with your build! I'm excited to see someone around my neck of the woods do this!

Alright sounds good ill shoot ya an email.

So heres a question for you guys. Ive got a book written by sean hyland about the mod motors and in the chapter about exhaust he talks about long tubes placing the o2 sensors too far from the exhaust ports and this creates a negative effect due to loss of heat, velocity, etc.... So he places his in one of the primaries closer to the head. That makes sense, but i know that everbody just buys the o2 extenders and uses the bungs provided. Do you think that it would make that much of a difference or no? <- Don't know what that thing is or what its use is but i wanted to include it. Lol

that is one theory I have heard before. But if you were to put the oxygen sensor in one of the primaries further up stream you would be reading off of just one cylinder instead of all 4 from each bank. The exhaust flow is rapid enough that it the time it takes to travel about a foot is not very long. With the heat issue, the different metals will dissipate the heat at different rates. I wouldn't get excited about it. Buy the extenders for it and call it good.
