My 05 f-150 is dead...help

Hi, I'm new here and I've been searching the forums, but can't find my problem...I have a 2005 f-150 with the 5.4 3v engine. I have spark, and injector pulse, but the fuel pump won't run. The inertia switch is hot on both sides, so thats not the problem. The truck quit while I was driving. I've checked the fuses and switched the relays around. I have a pink wire at the sending unit thats hot at all times when the ignition is on, and another wire shows ground, but the other two do nothing. The fuel pump won't run...Please help...The truck has 26,000 miles on it.

Suggestion 1: turn key on with door open and do not start the truck, can you hear the pump cycling? It will be a whine of a noise and then you will hear a click when it kicks out.

Suggestion 2: If no whine on key on position, maybe try knocking on the tank bottom firmly but gently not enough to cause dents, usually if its a bad pump the "jarring" effect may cause it to cycle...

Just what I would do, someone may have sugared your gas tank or just a bad pump possibly....

The pumps not running, no fuel pressure...I hit the tank pretty hard, it's plastic, and still no fuel!

I fixed the problem!!! There's a fuel pump control module located above the spare tire. The brown and white wire that feeds the ground for the pump was corroded! I'm sure there has to be a tsb on this. The module is in a poor spot. bad engineering!

im having the same problem. having bad idle and got the p1233 code for no communication with fuel pump driver module. looked at it and the whole thing was cracked open and salt was inside it. replaced it and drove it to work and it died on me when i pulled into the parking lot. drove it about 2 miles down the road, came to a stop light and died on me 3 times hopefully its not hte fuel pump, i dont have that kind of money to be spending on it. just made a big payment for college

Fuel pump driver module failure

Yup had a similar problem. Have an O5 F150. Just quit while driving. Starter would not even click or turn over. No blown fuses and could not access the computer for any codes. Had no choice to send it to the dealer. Ended up with a blown PCM module and fried fuel pump driver module. Apparently the fuel pump driver module aluminum case rotted out and shorted out the board frying the PCM module without blowing a fuse. $1500 dollars later from the dealer and a week without my truck. Poor crappy design and location for the fuel pump module! There is literally a hole in the middle of the aluminum case from corrosion. So bad for a 5 year old vehicle. New one has better spacing and chassis separation. I can't believe Ford doesn't recall this. Obviously not a safety issue but will be a problem for anyone with a newer F150.. Beware and check it before it rots out!

So do you guys live in areas that use a lot of road salt in wintry conditions?

Mine just bit the dust, too. Dealer said it is definitely the fuel control module and I imagine mine went out for the same reason as everyone else's--corrosion due to poor location. We have tons of salt on the roads here in WI and I'm sure that contributed to its demise. Luckily my PCM is still ok (I think). Bummer is that the part is on "national backorder" and they don't know when it will be available. Great, because it's not like I drive my truck to work everyday and use it to get around, right? Not too happy about that one.

Yup, lots of salt here, in Ohio... It is obviously the problem, and I do believe there should be a recall on this problem.

Yea, if I had one I would clean it up and silicone it or maybe undercoat it, Idunno something. I've heard of this happening before. Ford should at-least come up with a better replacement. If the Aluminum housing is rusting, - maybe a good grade of stainless.

It is a safety concern IMO. When there's a enough of a chance this could leave you stranded in the middle of know where. Who knows what the weather will be like when/if it happens.

I'v got an 04 5.4 new body style that was under the knife about a year ago. It needes a new module and a brand new fuel pump. Dealer said the screen in my pump was horrible. I guess thats what happens when you get gas at Costco while they are refilling the tanks. Dealer said module had to many volts going to it.

There are a couple of threads here on this, here they are:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...e-04-05-a.html
https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...ontroller.html

And Ford has come up with a new model - it mounts differently and that is supposed to help. According to one of the threads I posted above though, the part is allegedly on national back order. I can't speak to that, but worth checking on. Look in the threads and you'll see pics of the new part and the PN.

Thanks for the timely links. Mine just died yesterday and had to get it towed.

After about and hour it was able to start again. Once it did start the fuel pressure was low. I guess it could be a problem with the fuel controller shorting out intermittently from corrosion(?). Hopefully not the fuel pump.
