COP's are on the way. Bought plugs, grease and fuel filter today. Been reading on what to torque the plugs at. 1 said 20 the other 28. Which is right? Or neither? MAtts spark plug write up didn't specify. Want to avoid the blow out.

Ford spec says 12 -16' lbs. A couple of guys with a web site ( don't have the link -PM user glc for that and the data) who's specialty is with modular heads, offer the 20 -28' lb spec.

I don't use a torque wrench on plugs, but I did check where I put them at after I installed my last set - I was curious.

I've always used the 1/2 - 3/4 turn after snug which ends up about 20' lbs. I always run them in with a piece of 3/8 air hose so I don't cross thread which is easy to do in these heads.

Finish up using a 5/8 plug socket without an insert. You have to pull the insert or the socket might remain in the cylinder after you torque it down lol. If you don't want to pull the insert, you can tape the socket to the extension and pray that it holds.

What ever you, just take every precaution you can NOT to cross thread. Once that happens.....

Thanks. Truck is sittin in the garage with a full tank in the torpedo heater. Just waitin for the COP's. Read about your 3/8's hose trick but glad you put that in so I'd know. I think 20 should be fine. Don't wanna strip em either.

My last set had the tightening procedure on the plug box. - Think it said 1/4 - 1/2 turn after seat. Those were Denso's tho - Not sure if Motorcraft has that info on theirs. Also make absolutely sure you clean chambers out before you remove the old one. I paranoid about getting sh^t in the cylinders and have a little vacuum and hose that gets inserted thru the plug hole- into the cylinder to remove any debris that may have made it past me, - before the new ones go in. You most likely won't need to do that tho lol. Most just blow the chambers out with compressed air before hand and that's usually good enough.

Will check the box but I didn't see anything today. But I just glanced at em to make sure was right number. Got em at Advance. They were the same price as Rock Auto minus ship and we were already going by there.Yeah I read the blow out with air on the write up. Shop vac will get the rest.

It fits , you have to push hard for it to snap in. The bracket will expand. - Takes allot of pressure tho.

Must have the original filter or an old one cause the new one is twice the diameter as the old one. If u say it'll fit tho I'll shove it in there.

Really, probably had the wrong one on there then. The correct filters are one of the biggest I've seen.

The new one is big 9 1/4" diameter. The one on the truck now looks like it fits the bracket pretty tight and is about 6 1/2 to 7" diameter and it is a Motorcraft also. Maybe someone did put the wrong one on. Could'nt tell what the numbers were. Ran out of fuel for the torpedo heater and my bulb blew in my trouble light so I took it as abad sign and left it for tommorrow.

9 1/4 - Damn, what's that thing hold , a half gallon - That's not right.

My old galleries don't work , I'll try to find an old thread. I posted the filter many times.

Well I can't find a pic, but the diameter should be around 3-3.5" - are you thinking length or something, yuh hillbilly

I measured diameter not width. Wrapped the tape rule around the filter. The FG872 is 3" wide measuring across the top and 3 " tall. Pulled the filter today and it is a FG986B. Thought maybe some dummy changed the bracket but it looks like the original. So I call the dealer and according to the parts guy he said the factory might have ran out of that filter and put the FG986B on. Said he had seen weirder things.

I highly doubt the factory would bolt in the incorrect fuel filter....
