The 4.6 was long rated one of the top 10 most reliablee engines as well. I would consider an 04-08 4.6 for sure.

This is good info to know in case something happens to my truck.

Looking on Craigslist now. The selection is much better than Autotrader.com. I have not seen many 4.6 engines though. I found one Screw that I would buy imediately if it weren't for the 175K miles on it already.

Very nice looking Lariat here. The wheels aren't my style but I could probably sell them for something I like better. Of course it would have to be an 04.

Here is the link to the Craiglist listing. I am a sucker for red. That is essentially my F-150 with the extended cab and 4x4. My bad on the original description. Not a Screw but a Scab. ;-)

Dude that price is outrages. I could get one like that in my area for 6 grand probably. You should look in other parts of the country. With the money you could save in other places it would be worth flying out to pick it up. Maybe a board member would even look at it in advance for you.

Sorry, that guy is out of his mind on the price.
My 98 Scab has less miles, all new body work with some new body parts, new paint by a top notch shop, lots of new parts and I mean lots. Went right through the truck in the last year. Mine has more options on it with alot more accessories and the 5.4L engine. It is the Ford Cardinal Red, etc etc.
Mechanically runs perfect. It's your's for 9k (maybe 8500.00)I will use that money to buy a new 09.

Dan, Have you tried autotrader.com

open the link below and you will see what trucks are selling for to fit your interest. The one from Philly looks nice with low miles, this truck retails from NADA @ $10,700.00 and I bet they would take 9k or less. Real nice looking truck !!!

Thanks. I am on Autotrader right now. I will check your link. I guess people are greedy here in Illinois. (our politicians set fine examples though)

So...was it just the 5.4 liter that has the plug problem. I found an 04 low miles with a 4.6 not far from here. It is even red.

How much, mileage, package(s), etc.

From what I have read and understand, you will be ok with the 4.6L.
You plan on towing with it? If you are you might be undersized with that engine but there are other's on here who can be a better reference for that question.

You can look at the truck here. I am sure I can talk him down a couple grand as it looks like the truck has been sitting there a while. I don't tow anything and only really need a pickup a few times a year for hauling stuff from the home improvement stores and nurserys, but its not really so much that I need a truck than I just want one. I just hope the gas doesn't jump back up to $4 a gallon after I buy one or I will be kicking myself in the a$$ for not getting a more fuel efficient car. I take the train to Chicago for work most of the time but there are times like right now that I have to drive to work. The cost of fuel last summer didn't affect me that much because I took the train.
