I am Buying a 2002 4.6 out of an F-150 for $1400 it has 84,000 mi, on it. To me that seemed like the best route. I found 4000 mi motor for $2100, but my trucks old so no use putting a new motor in it.

A friend of Mine is going to help me put it in sometime next week, I need to get the machine out of our shop before i can put my truck in there. (4 million dollar machine or a F-150 lol)

Were gonna pull the old one and take the underdrive pulleys off and put them on the new motor. Wish i had the money to do E-fans. since the motors going to be out.

New Plugs, oil, filter, Look and see if anything else needs replaced, maybe do the tranny filter. Also i was looking at getting an edge to help with the Lean issue.

Im friends with the local ford shop manager, and hes gonna hook it up after the swap to make sure that the computer is working right, and just check it.

So hopefully next week ill have it done, or at least have the new motor in. when we get it out ill pull the head and take pictures ans let you see what it did.

Ill probably be asking all kinds on questions about how to do this, Any tips would be appericated.

That is a pretty good deal, and the fact that you can look it over and check it out should give you some more peace of mind. Let us know if we can help you out.

Ok so its been a little while, but i finally got the old motor out. What a PITA, but it made me happy to finally make some progress.

When i got it out first thing we did was pull the head, we werent gentle with it either just wanted to get it apart. My mechanic told me that I dropped an exhaust valve and had started to melt a piston, so im expecting to find a mess in there. THERES NOT A THING THAT I CAN FIND WRONG.

Needless to say i am very angry, i called my mechanic and he said that the reson it wasnt knocking when i drove it last was because there was no compression and the coil pack wasnt on. Wouldnt there still be compression as long as the spark plug is in?? He said that it could be in the piston pin or crank so im gonna pull it apart and see if i can find something wrong with the motor i just took out.

I am hoping to get the new motor in on wednesday if my help shows up. Does anyone know if you can get the exhaust manifold on while the motors in the truck??

People install headers with the engine in the truck so stock manifolds area breeze in comparison.

The guy who was helping me jsut backed out on finishing it, so now im really stuck on finishing this.

Thats good to know about the manifolds becasue i gotta drill the old bolts out of the manifolds where they go to the collector.

Sounds like you should of ran it by the dealer. With these engines the dealer is usually the safest bet. Guys try to save mony and it ends up costing them. Find the best dealer service department you can an save yourself money by only going there.

Does the replacement engine have manifolds? Or are they the manifolds with the broken studs? Either way do this work while the engine is out of the truck.
