You should have forged crank, all 5.4 have forged cranks.

they would also weigh more. but for his and 99% of the people on this website. they dont need to worry about the blocks being stronger since there is 1% on here who make over 1000hp at the flywheel.

That what I thougth till I talked to Mike Troyer about building a motor. He also said the nonNVH block is good for just as much horsepower as the NVH block it just needs a stud gurdel (sp). Phil that is why your 03 just happend to have a forged crank. Has anyone seen as 5.4 with a cast crank?

Yes the NVH block does weigh slightly more than the regular 5.4 block. The point I was making is you stated that the NVH block is not stronger than the regular 5.4 block. But it is.

It never hurts to err on the side of caution. Who knows where this will end up going. I know it won't be 1000hp obviously.

Here's step one of the build. Engine is now totally torn down and ready to go to the machine shop Friday.
It is a little dirtier than I was hoping for but should not be a problem. Piston, crank, etc are all gone now and in a pile of scrap. Good news is I'm almost positive I ended up getting a forged crank. The parting line is really thick so I'm thinking I did Ok on this deal. I'll get a few pics later for verification.

Thick....will post a pic in a few minutes. Loading my new tune in for the old motor now. Still working on my blow through setup until the new motor is done. It was late, I should have been in bed earlier.....
