Cast or Forged Crank (03 N/A 5.4)
Cast or Forged Crank (03 N/A 5.4)
Is it likely that my 03 N/A 5.4 has a forged crank, or does it most likely have the cast crank? I need to know because I am planning a Lightning supercharger setup, and I need to know what my limits are. Is there a way to physically identify what i have by the way the crank looks, or sounds when it is striked, or by my vin number? I know that the forged is good for 900 hp at the flywheel, what will i be looking at if I have the cast?
If i do actually have the cast crank, where would I go to to find a forged crank?

hmm... what would be the easiest way to check visually which ones i have? basically, i am asking what method would involve the least work of disassembly to see what i have? dropping the oil pan to check, or just start tearing things apart? i found pics for comparison in this thread, https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ged+crank+pics
Justing thinking out loud...
If it has a casting number then wouldn't it be cast by definition?
I can't imagine a forged crank having a casting number...since it isn't cast. Perhaps a forged crank would have a forging number

I just went and looked,,and,,according to the link you posted,,it is a forged crank!
If you drop your oil-pan,,,you should be able to tell .

between the journals somewhere. cant remember which end showed the ford part #. basically flip it over pull the pan and rotate it till u see #'s
if i had my cast crank here still i'd post my # and if it matched urs, then u would know u had a cast crank.
food for thought, cast cranks were being mixed in @ 2002? not positive but you'l have to search that one. i thought the 97-01's were forged.

phil 6608, are you saying your stock crank was a forged one? if you don't mind posting the numbers for a reference, that would be great. if it is indeed forged, are you willing to sell it if I need it? looks like i'll be pulling the oil pan to see what I have...

I don't think I want to sell it,,,it would be just as cheep to order a new one from Jegs by the time you add shipping and all.

this is starting to worry me, i read somewhere else that a crankshaft managed to fail on a Bone Stock 03 5.4... the engine got totally f--d up. and i'm planning on running a blown setup, i'll definitely be upgrading to the forged crank it turns out i have the cast.

And the other number is F75E-A176

In this pic you can see how wide the line down the middle is. And according to what people are saying,,that means it's forged.
