Yep, going to machinist today for inspection. It was from a 2007 so it looked to be pretty low mileage, bearings and everything look new so it should be in good shape. It's just dirty because I haven't cleaned it all up, I'm going to get it polished again just to make sure the journals are good and smooth.

you are pretty much spot on on the melting point issue but if you dont think alum. gets much dif properties at way less than 1200f your smokin some good stuff same goes for cast iron around 15oof it changes alot google pearlite , martenzite (sp) sorry its late your block and crank should be fine and i wish you luck with it but being a tool and die maker that has taken alot of metalurgy classes and having a father that has been a heat treater/ metalurgy specialist for 35+years its in my blood to not let you bbe wrong on that im done keep us up to date on the motor

So your in agreement too that is ok? The aluminum is all scrap, only thing I'm using is the block and crank(if it checks out ok).

Update....
My project is on hold for a little while. I've decided to use the Diamond 5.4 specific piston which set up higher in the cylinder like a true 5.4 piston should, not one of the 4.6 substitutes. That also means they must be notched to accommodate the valves. I've decided to go with the Trick Flow heads which have not been released yet. Therefore, waiting on the heads to be released so the pistons can be cut to the proper relief. May be a few months before I get anywhere.... Block and crank checked out fine, block has been dippped, and crank has been polished. I can't bore the block until I get my pistons, so right now the heads are my hold up. As soon as someone gets a pair of them, I can get the right pistons and move forward.

This is more or less what they will look like, just different valve reliefs....
