Whining noises that quiten down after a warm-up usually indicates a worn bearing. Don't worry about it until it fails. In the meantime, try using an additive.

Cool nope

i sure havnt checked the waterpump but i did figure out today that it is a bearing issue just have to figure out which bearing it is. the truck has 215,000 miles on it so im sure it will be needing one soon, the only thing ive had to get replaced scince ive owned the truck was the ac compressor and lines. its been a damn good truck.

you can check the power steering fluid. my pump is noisy all the time but i topped it off a little while ago and it made a little bit of a difference.

I personally doubt that you have a bearing going and it's making a whining noise. My 97 with the 4.6 has made a whining noise for several years now when its extremely cold out. The noise goes away after a mile or two of driving. I have listened under the hood and it appears it's the power steering pump. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Usually a bearing will make a tapping noise when it starts going south.
