Battery dead after sitting for one week?
I wonder if this is the "battery saver relay" that is supposed to power things down after an "event" like opening doors (or even after leaving the doors open for a long time)?
William, without going out and "pulling" on them, I don't seem to have any way to tell if they are replaceable or not. I'm slightly reluctant to try this.
Since you've found some in your service manual that can't be replaced, the point seems moot. And, the way the dealership is treating you tells me it's an "up front" business that wants to keep you as a customer. I'd follow the service guy's advice.
Norm - I started a thread over on the King Ranch forum about the "puddle lamp" that's found in King Ranch outside mirrors as well as in ones on high end Expy's and Lincolns. I wanted to replace the incandescent bulb in it with an LED. Well, I can't without "cutting" it apart, because it is a sealed unit (about the size of a golf ball). If I could get a replacement unit, I'd try taking one apart, but, guess what? You cannot get these things by themselves! In my case, I'd have to buy an entire heated, power aiming, power folding with turn signals, mirror (about $200+)!
Doesn't the starter solenoid fall into this camp too? I don't think you can replace just the solenoid.
Ford's just full of great design decisions!

The service manager also assured me my truck will be OK thru the tropical storm coming thru. I would rather have it in there big parking lot than on my driveway where a pine tree will fall on it.
But, a faulty battery saver relay COULD really be the problem! It's interesting how this thing is not mentioned in the owner's manual (to me, it's a big "plus" and I'd talk about it) and, I can't find it in my Hayne's manual (I know, it's a pretty elementary book).

Well they just called and said the truck will be ready tomorrow with the new fuse block. they did say they tested the battery, alternator and for draws and everything checked out. Can a relay work sometimes and not others?
I will continue to monitor when I get it back. It sounds like a F-150 battery voltage should read 12.4 to 12.5v after shutdown to around 5 days. Based on the polls I did on this forums and others.

Honestly, integrated/embedded relays I know nothing about or the reasoning behind it, but there must be one.
Just talked to service writer and tech. They replaced the fuse box and left it hooked up to their equipment all night to test for draws, there were none, at least over last night. Tech said the problem is the bad relay randomly energizes and that can drain the battery over time. I am hoping this is the problem, I will monitor voltage when I get it home today.

. I want a new truck , I can tell you what it won't be , that's for sure.
