Are the dreaded "seized spark plugs"... ???

......still an issue with 08' Ford F150's ?

Was this a design issue, or what ? It seems to me that something as simple as anti-seize compound should prevent this.... No ?

Just curious,
Fish

the newest tsb applies to the 08s as well. its not as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. ive done plenty of plug changes and never broke one.

There was a thread that talked about the new head design with a conventional spark plug. 08's with a build date after Feb25/08. It is unconfirmed as the pic was of a 4.6L 3 valve.

Look at post 42.

My dealer changed mine at 65,500, followed the TSB and had no problems. They have had one plug break to date, and that truck had over 100,000 on it.

If you buy an 08, just get the dealer to remove the plugs, lube the shield with nickel anti-sieze, and reinstall. Shouldn't cost you more than $200.

I thought the same way until I broke a few on one truck, hasn't happened since but it will happen, you just don't really know what you are going to get with these.......If Ford had to make TWO special tools to remove the pieces then it IS a big deal......

FordTech1,

have you had to remove the heads on one of these yet? Do you know if you can remove the heads without removing the front cover, with that wedge tool that you wedge in the timing chain? I belive its the same tool that you use when you replace a cam phaser.

Haven't had the heads off for the plugs but have had them off for other things...pulling the front cover is not that big of a deal, you have to pull it to pull the heads...

Hmmmm......

I think maybe at least "the first time I have my plugs changed" I'll take it to the stealership. (Geez I dread those places) And then if their are no problems, I'll have my own mechanic do it the next time around. I just wouldn't want to stick my mechanic friend, with a catastrophie, which wasn't even his fault, to begin with...... Plus, if a plug breaks off while the stealers are working on it, it's on them.... right ?

On the other hand, my truck will positively have a build date of no earlier than 6/1/08...... Oh... wait a minute.... I guess the motor itself could have been built earlier, for use in my truck which was finished in June, huh ?

Did you do a factory order? Do you know when you placed the order? The only way to know for sure is to look at the heads when the truck comes in.

Fish, you will have to have the record for the number of posts prior to ever owning your truck.

Hey now.....

it's not my fault they are taking forever to get my F150 to me !

I ordered it on 26th of April..... So its been more than 6 weeks... and a week ago, they told me it could be 3 or 4 more.

To be quite honest, I'm starting to get very concerned, about whether or not their were any problems with my order, as I just found out that we are past the 08' re-order date.
I totally don't care for the 09's, not to mention the fact that an 09' would cost probably $10K more (probably $4K more for the base price of the truck + I'd lose the $6000 rebate on the 08') So, a lot more money for a truck I don't want.
I know, I know, I'm just being paranoid, right ? I hope so.

Anyway, I've sure learned a lot on the forum here..... Just hoping I can put that knowledge to use very soon !

And BTW, I hope nobody says I'm "rushing into my mods" once I get my truck...... as I plan to dump $4 or $5K into my F150 within like the first 2 weeks ;-) .......but then most of you know I have asked "just a couple questions" ahead of time ;-) LOL

Thanks again for all of you guys help, and experience,
Fish
