It's a good thing you came here first, because I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that your EGR valve is not faulty. Autozone is in business to sell parts, not fix vehicles. More than likely, the EGR ports in the throttle body-to-intake manifold elbow are stopped up, and/or the DPFE sensor is faulty.

I'll bet on Quintin's advice...

The EGR does not fail often. But the elbow that it bolts to, VERY often gets totally clogged. Take it all appart down to the elbow and get some good pipe brushes, after going thru it gently with a drill bit. I have done a few myself. I doubt you even need the pressure sensor. Do it soon, running as you are now will hurt your gas mileage and eventually foul your plugs. Then start clogging exhaust etc with more black carbon.

Your in the minority, that rarely ever happens - When THE VALVE goes bad, a stuck one might produce a PO401 - A bad diaphragm will produce a PO402 code (poppet valve failure) - 90% of the time , as said - A 401 is usually the ports or the DPFE sending a bad signal to PCM.

I had the same problem with my 98 4.6L V8. The dealership garage replaced egr a few times and gave me the run around. I took the guys here advise and had my vw mechanic clean the elbow and throttle body (what a mess!) and it solved the problem. 10,000 miles later the code is back. For $50 and case of beer, my wife's bus mechanic will do the work for me.

Sounds like the bus mechanic is getting more on the side...

Bet that your EGR ports in the TB are blocked! Do a search on here, buy a manual, clean it, and, drive it like you stole it from now on. LMFAO!

Never doubt the jbrew and quintin! A+ members!!!

hahahaha, I spoke to him yesterday and the cost is $150.00. You're right about trusting Jbrew and Quintin. They know their stuff.
