Fuel pump quit I think

I was driving home yesterday and RIGHT as I drove past the entrance ramp to the Ford dealership my engine suddenly dies like someone reached over and turned off the key. I immediately lost my power steering and so I wrestled it over a bit and hit the brakes. 100 yards from the dealership. I noticed by CEL light went on as well, but I can't extract it because the engine won't start. Dad came and got me. We tried to start, but he says its the fuel pump. I checked the safety shut-off switch but it hasen't tripped. So we pushed it back in front of customer service and left them the key and called them this morning to explain why theres a white 1998 F-150 sitting in front of the dealership. Hope to get it back tomorrow. I also hope they notice it's all detailed and don't spray it off with city water 10 minutes before I come to pick it up like last time.

The engine needs to be on to pull codes? I thought putting it in the "ON" position was enough.

Were you able to hear the fuel pump activate when you turned the key to ON?

Thats enough for my 02.

Replaced mine about 5 months ago, expect to pay $350ish for a factory pump. (and don't just get a checker one, they cost a little less, but don't last half as long)

Might be as simple as a blown fuse. O2 sensor harnesses like to get on the exhaust manifold, short out the heater power circuit, and blow the fuse that makes the whole dang thing run.

Also, shorted RFI caps will give much the same basic symptom (dead vehicle, call to AAA).

Well the good news is it wasnt the fuel pump. It was a sensor that fell off the crankshaft. I think Ford should've ate this one cause the engine is a new one (28,585 miles- orig. hydrolocked and still have 4 months on new engine warranty) but the price was only $250. Bad news is my tax return came in- the one I planned on painting my bumper with- had to go to Ford

Heres the invoice for all interested (cant see very well, but she wrote in big letters "DONT WASH!" for me )

Well I got her back, she feels like really wants to go. It felt weird for a few mins cause I'm used to sitting low and far back in my friends Firebird for the past 2 days and I felt on top of the world when I was going down the road Well, thanks for your support guys. Ended up cheaper than I thought, but oh well. Things break.

Dude, pull that copy of the invoice!

It has your personal info on it. If you want to display the non-personal stuff, at least obliterate your personal stuff.
