How much hp did the pre 04 5.4 engines have?
You guys are.................
Gay
And my dad is bigger than yours. HA HA HA HA
I'm sorry I couldn't help it. I am just kidding.
I have a 4.6 and it has been great. I have only towed more than 4000lbs a few times and she was working. AND I did it with a 3.08!!!! She did fine ya'll so there is something to be said for Ford Tough. My step dad's 5.4 with 3.73 was a hoss!

You guys still debating even after someone pulled the "cute blonde, with lots of beer and big knockers" card, what the hell is wrong with you people? The 4.6 is good and the 5.4 is good, but sadly they are both underpowered. Oh and about those charger cop cars, don't worry, the vic's will be fine, wait till that mopar tranny takes a sh^t.

Look at what the other truck compinies are offering, it's time for Ford to update or at least get close to the HP offered by other companies.
4.6 and 5.4 won't be retired I promise you that, there is too much money invested into them, and the whole modular line. And the boss is still talk, Ford has not told us anything for sure. But I hope to see the day when Ford once again has the highest HP/TQ in a fullsize, but Toyota has a big bullseye on the F-150, look what the camry did to the taurus, but I hope Ford can get it together and put something in the "strongest truck frame", that warrants the need for the "strongest truck frame"
There isn't a stock 4six truck motor made that's tougher than the 5.4L
Does this statement make more sense to you than what I originally said?
As long as we are getting picky about opinions, here's mine:
Since the gasket issues were fixed in 1998, the lowly little 4.2 V6 has had less maintenance issues than EITHER Triton V8. NOTE that this OPINION does not address performance or work capability, only maintenance and durability. I do not claim to back this opinion up with facts, it's only my impression and anyone is welcome to disagree with it with their blowtorch turned off.

It's not so much the power that makes a truck a truck. It's torque. The 5.4L is a true truck engine, it has nut where trucks need it. The 4.6L is fine for light duty/ light hauls, but it's really a car motor that doesn't belong in a truck IMO.
Sure the 4.6L will last a long time if you treat it more like car and haul little loads here and there, BUT! The 4.6L won't out last a 5.4L under heavy conditions; conditions that call upon a truck to pull it's own weight; conditions that define a real truck.
There's your answer, hope that helps
What's to back up ? What don't you understand ? Try to make sense this time.
